PfunkNH true that it was interesting when Barry said he doesn't carry with a live chamber I thought for sure he would be locked and loaded
@joedoole35278 жыл бұрын
He doesn't use a holster that covers the trigger guard, he uses one of those belt clips to carry. If he is proficient with that then I guess it works, but to me I want my carry weapon chambered and in a standard IWB rig. The two points of failure on a semi auto is going to be either during chambering or with a mag malfunction. If a semi auto is going to jam it's usually because of a mag/ammo issue or it happens during chambering with a short stroke or whatever. I want to eliminate that possibility in a self defense scenario so I do not want to have to rack my slide on a carry gun. To each his own though. I'm 6ft 190lbs typically wearing jeans or slacks and a button up shirt with jacket when colder and I'm able to carry a Glock 19 or 32 in a Kydex&leather Alien IWB rig comfortably with no issues. If I need to get more concealed for summer cargo shorts and t shirt attire I go to my M&P Shield. Not everyone has this same experience though.

Hickock45 did a video on this. Without the transfer bar it takes surprisingly little amount of force to discharge a revolver, when the hammer is above the primmer. Glad you saw this. This was a little cringe moment for me.
@DystruktoBoi15 жыл бұрын
@@MrBirdonawire Hickok was demonstrating on an old single action army revolver. People learned fast that you couldn't safely carry with your cylinder fully loaded so while they didn't have a transfer bar, they still wouldn't fire unless the trigger was fully pressed. The Colt he was showing was a 1917 victory revolver, those have a block that will not let the hammer fully drop unless the trigger is fully depressed, my friend has one and I've shot it, I've seen how it works. I also own a Nagant revolver, originally designed in 1895, and it has a whole camming block attached to the trigger that only moves to the forward position and allows the hammer to strike the primer when the hammer is fully depressed. The days of revolvers having hammers rest directly on primers was short lived for obvious reasons.

I love Barry, however, I disagree with his concept of carrying without a round in the chamber. There are dozens of videos online of people either getting killed, or losing the fight because they didn't have one in the chamber. All it takes is for somebody to grab your other arm, you rack the slide improperly because you're under immense stress in panic mode, you have to draw discretely, you have to push somebody back with one arm while drawing with the other, etc. It goes on and on. If I'm not mistaken there's actually a compilation video online of people losing gun fights because they didn't have a round in the chamber, or winning gun fights because the aggressor didn't have one in theirs. Bad advice in my opinion. Carry your pistol in a quality holster, and get professional training. That's all it boils down to.
@JustSumGuy017 жыл бұрын
He was obviously of some weird old school mentality because the fact that Glocks were introduced with no manual safety and should be empty carry but I think he failed to point out that he didn't carry his Glock in a holster. He used the stupid slide clip thing, which leaves the entire trigger area exposed to you pants. Of course you wouldn't carry any gun chambered
@NikoBased7 жыл бұрын
@Excalibur01 Could be. Your theory is better than mine. I'm just shocked that Eric or Chad hadn't talked him out of it while he was still here with us. Or at least disclaimer the video not to encourage other people to do the same. Since I had done the research and found those videos. You can actually find more videos of people losing gun fights because they didn't have one in the chamber than you can anything else. It appears to be one of the leading causes of losing gun fights. I think what happens is, people go through the motions while they're training, and assume that because it's a very quick and easy maneuver , it will be no problem. Except, what we're finding out is, very rarely do people get to draw their weapon like they're in a Bruce Willis movie. Cops lots of times get to draw their weapon properly because they're not usually being blindsided by criminals. Cops usually show up to stop the criminals. It's pretty unlikely for thief to crack a cop over the head with a weapon and take his wallet, or threaten his family. And even then I wouldn't recommend cops carrying without one in the chamber because they're more likely to end up in gun fights in the first place. Not to go on and on about it, especially because you don't even disagree..... I just find it interesting.

I know this is a subject that will be fought over forever but... i have never seen videos of people losing fights because of NOT carrying a round in the chamber. I was old school for years, carrying my 1911s without a round in the chamber. I said: "An accidental discharge is more likely than a fast draw needing both hands free" But I carried wheelguns just as much, without any mental problem with 5 or 6 rounds in chambers! I got wise finally, and now only carry chambered. I agree that the 'safety' is in your head. ...as well as knowing your gun so well that you function with it automatically by muscle memory, not thinking about how the gun works. I mostly pocket carry today, with a small auto loader that has no safety, just a double action pull. A round is always in the chamber. I do have a good sleeve holster with the trigger covered and would not carry it otherwise.

No offense to Barry's legacy, but I don't understand what the benefits are of carrying on a clip that would outweigh the drawback of needing to chamber a round before firing. Wouldn't carrying in a proper holster instead of a clip negate the safety concern of the light trigger pull and allow one to carry a Glock chambered?
@SOLDOZER9 жыл бұрын
+MC I think Barry was half crazy. Common sense should have told him that a normal holster and one in the chamber would have been a better idea than some shitty clip holster and trying to play IDF draw master.
@nigahiga64009 жыл бұрын
+MC A gun like the Glock demands very good trigger discipline and a purpose made holster. I'd agree with Barry if someone wanted to carry a Glock using a generic holster or clip in that it's unsafe to carry a round in the chamber. Many people point to Glock and say it's an unsafe firearm. While it's easier to have a negligent discharge with a Glock due to the light trigger pull, with the right holster and the right shooter a Glock is no more dangerous than any other handgun.
@elitetrader54689 жыл бұрын
+MC I agree. I love Barry, but the CORRECT way to carry a Glock is with a dedicated holster made for it (I love Raven Concealment holsters btw), with a round in the chamber. The need to rack the slide could be that extra second that gets you killed and that's assuming you would remember to even rack the slide in a high pressure situation which is questionable.

I carried a Glock for a while then moved to a 1911 and just don't carry a firearm chambered. It takes a split second to chamber a round. Not only that people these days are stupid. No offense. Things happen I'd rather take a second to chamber a round than take a bullet.

A gun with a safety just seem to me to be even more dangerous than a gun without a safety. Relying on a mechanical safety does not make a gun safe - much better to have no safety and understand how to handle a gun.

@TheRickJames6 жыл бұрын
Not true for the most part because most handguns wont even allow the firing pin to drop and/or the trigger/hammer to depress with the safety engaged. A better analogy than ABS lol, would be a fuel shut off valve. Statistically speaking a loose round is more likely to have its primer unintentionally ignited than that of a round contained in a firearm. If your saying a mechanical safety cannot be trusted than your finger cannot either because in its simplest form it is mechanical. I think just as with women we should lend a bit of trust to a good firearm while remaining precautions. 😂

I've been shooting many, many different guns, actions and safety's over my considerable years and it all boils down to.....KNOW YOUR FIREARM!! Some are much easier to use some are complicated but they all work very well if you take the time to know your gun and practice, practice practice with it!

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard...You carry your Glock without a round in the chamber? Thats a good way to get yourself killed in a gun fight...Im just saying...
@Draal33789 жыл бұрын
Ken Pope Nothing wrong with the way he carrying the glock. He is carrying it without a shroud around the trigger and trigger guard. He states in the vid that he has the glock on a clip and not a holster. With no round in the chamber he can guarantee that the firearm will not go off without his say. Personally, one reason, I carry my glock in a holster to avoid the requirement to chamber a round on draw. Both are valid carry methods. Both have advantages and disadvantages for various scenarios.

i was a cop and trust me, you must teach yourself to use the gun loaded with one in the chamber. just make sure your holster covers the trigger guard, also if ones in the chamber store it in a holster in case someone thats a fool grabs it

I have that same Chinese double barrel, in 12 gauge though, and I have to say, you have to be careful when firing it, then unloading. The extractor rod retaining pin has a tendency to become loose, fall out or prevent you from closing the barrels.

Sorry but carrying with a round in the chamber is safe with a Glock with the proper holster. and you're demo of that "tactical racking slide, shot" is ridiculous
@MrMikesMondoVideo11 жыл бұрын
Funny, while watching this, that was one issue that stood out to me, though I wouldn't call it ridiculous. It is referred to as Israeli carry and it can be problematic if you are h2h and you need to draw and fire. I also do not agree with Mexican carry, but he solves the safety concern by carrying in condition three, which, as mentioned, sacrifices tactics. Because of satisfying a safety issue, I do not object to his methodology, but I would not teach this. You are correct about a proper holster solving that issue. After watching a few videos here, I like these guys. In fact, they’re the kind of folks I’d enjoy swapping tales with.
@antaries9311 жыл бұрын
MrMikesMondoVideo its not a mexican carry. what he is using is a waistband holster. its provides better maneuverability and control over the firearm while holstered. Different situations require different holsters . what he is doing requires that type of holster.
@MrMikesMondoVideo11 жыл бұрын
antaries93 We can argue whether that technically is or is not Mexican carry and whether a clip qualifies as a holster. What is important here and more relevant to the discussion is how safe that type of carry is in condition one, which is the only way I would carry a handgun. The safety issue with Mexican carry is the same with a waistband clip… specifically, the trigger is exposed. The clip may assist in holding the firearm in position, but I would never carry that way. Again, he is carrying in condition three, so there is no safety issue, but I am of the opinion that is a tactical mistake.
@PaynekillerJim11 жыл бұрын
I'd like to add I fully support carrying with one in the chamber, but I do not support carrying with the trigger exposed

Alex Nelson If he had an Aegis Armory Guardian Trigger Guard Holster he could be carrying one in the chamber with no safety risk, TheLateBoyscout talked about this in his video about said holster

I put a 7 5/8'' action slide with a vintage walnut corncob forearm and stock, on my Maverick 88, it does not mare or scratch up the mag tube. it functions perfectly. the wood furniture added a little weight but that helps ease recoil, adding the wood furniture and the new action slide improved the look and function of the already good looking and great functioning shotgun.

I would never carry a gun that didn't have a safety, my wife works in a hospital and pulling a bullet out of someone's foot has become a weekly occurrence that they've nicknamed it "Glock-foot". NO safety is fool-proof but only a fool would carry a gun with no safety, that was what my great uncle taught me and he fought in WWII as well as being a gun owner.
@rickyparker75898 жыл бұрын
A Striker fire gun will not go off because it "felt like it" Someone will accidentally discharge their firearm if they neglect it. And dont carry it in the correct holster. It is not a hard thing to do.
@sillygoose210_68 жыл бұрын
No gun should have a safety, safeties kill more people than negligent discharges.

How do you pull the trigger if it's holstered?
@riptaway8 жыл бұрын
For one, people shoot themselves with guns that have mechanical safeties all the time. Two, handling a glock is not hard. If you're dumb enough to somehow do something with it that squeezes the trigger all the way back(it takes a bit of force), I don't really have any sympathy. It's a gun. It can kill you. Treat it with respect and pay attention. Three, the last thing I want to do when I'm suddenly awakened at 2 am in the dark with some guy in my house about to do god knows what to my family(I don't have kids, grown family) is fumble with safeties. I know it's easy to do it at the gun range or whatever, but when that adrenaline starts pumping and your animal brain takes over, weird things happen to people's higher thinking. Of course, plenty of people get the safety off and do what they gotta do. But if someone is breaking into my home, the less I have to do to start putting bullets in them the better. Fourth, and in my opinion this makes the whole argument silly, is that you don't have to have a round chambered. My glock is a compact .40 with hollowpoints. Plenty of stopping power. And yet the magazines still hold 13 rounds. If I can't get the job done with 13 rounds, I doubt 1 more is gonna make a difference(not that I won't grab my second mag and try), and after lots of shooting and handling and practicing, racking my slide back when I need a round in the chamber comes as naturally as breathing. I can have my gun out of my nightstand and a round chambered before I'm standing all the way up from my bed. Seriously. Your safety is in your head and your hands. I would honestly hate an external safety that I had to flip on and off. When I put a round in the chamber, I know my glock WILL shoot whatever I'm aiming at when I pull the trigger. It's accurate, reliable, and damned easy to use. Yes, a glock with a round in the chamber will fire if the trigger is pulled. If you can't handle that, by all means get a gun with a safety. But if you respect your gun and pay attention to what you're doing with it(follow the basic tenets of gun ownership), it will never go off unintended. Again. If you're so careless that you somehow accidentally pull your gun's trigger...Don't have a round in the chamber. It blows my mind. It takes less than a second for me to rack the slide back and get into a shooting stance. And that's not even getting into the false sense of security a safety on a gun engenders. Not all people, but a good many, think that the safety on their gun means that it's safe. That's just not true. A mechanical safety on a gun that you have to switch doesn't make a gun safe...it's still a tool of devastating power. And plenty of people have experienced firsthand the effects of the illusion of safety that lowers people's guards, makes them complacent and unwary. TL;DR If your dumbass can't handle a chambered glock without it going off in some bizarre entanglement, don't keep a round chambered. Problem solved

I have been carrying a Ruger SR9c which has only a 3.75 lb trigger pull(much less than a glock) with a round in the chamber for years and it has never been an issue. As long as you have a kidex holster that completely covers the trigger you are fine. Not to mention most officers carry a glock 19 with a round in the chamber. Just thought I would mention that.

I had my mossberg plinkster in for gun works and an trigger job. To enlighten the trigger. When test fireing it worked flawlessly. But when on safe if you pull the trigger it lets the hammer drop a little. Then when you go to release the safety it fired by itself. That's what I consider an accidental discharge. But in an safe manor.

I carry a combination gun (Baikal IZH-94 in 12ga/.308) with internal hammers that auto-sets the tang safety with the action lever. I carry it on safe until I am ready to shoot, and I am used to flipping the safety at that time. This works for me and I am both confident and very safe carrying this firearm.
