If you read the back of their album (The Gun with Race With The Devil) they explain their kind of music. The call it 'Hard Rock'. It was the first time that a band used this name to express their style of music. So with 'The Gun' the HardRock music was born!

As real as it gets. Phenomenal band. Not mentioned enough when describing the birth of heavy music. these guys were deffs one of the first to be this Heavy. You can hear the Cream, Vanilla fudge, and Hendrix influence, but they took it a step further and took what those guys were doing and really made it their own. can here the Ginger/Carmine double bass shuffle, which is a big part of it. and I'm so glad..obviously liked cream lol

It was more of a British heavy Blues sound. Their weren't many bands i think that had a real heavy metal sound . Cream latter period of Yardbirds out of the ashes Zeppelin. Deep purple definitely. Warhorse Nicky Simper band Atomic Rooster Mountain ledlie West Blue Cheer over the top pre dawn metal . Again most bands i know leaving alot out they paved the way for what would become what we known in late 70s early 80's as British Heavy Metal..
