So maybe they shouldn’t remove the individual Citizen’s right to protection without adding effective security. If the City tells Citizens the can’t carry, then the responsibility to security falls to the city, or subway in this case. We need to hold institutions accountable for failures in security like this. This should be like any OSHA related on-site death were customers, patrons, or workers were prevented from using their PPE, but then the institution failed to implement effective safety protocols resulting in deaths/injuries from predictable threats. Simple “no guns allowed” signs are not effective security. These mass shooting will continue to happen until we force companies and institutions to take our security seriously. We need to hold them accountable for their failures and reward/ encourage best practices. The subway limited these victims ability to protect themselves, but never implemented enough security to prevent a guy muttering to himself, wearing a reflective vest, rolling a wheeled bag around carrying smoke, gas mask, and firearms. Where was the security? Why don’t we ever seek to encourage these places to do better? Forklifts kill, and public places are at risk to deranged mass shooters. These are known risks with appropriate safety measures. Why do we let those in power remove our abilities to protect ourselves without adding any supplemental security to fill the void?
