Hi. I served in the portuguese army 27 years ago and that brought back some memories :) Thank you for sharing this. In my time we had some stuff that was already overdue packed in cardboard boxes. I ate some canned meals that were older than I was. And I'm still alive :)

In portugal the breakfasts are pretty sparse. Coffee/espresso and a piece of bread or crackers with quince jelly, as its called there marmelade. Thats because a big lunch hot meal is usually eaten pretty early as well with a smaller snack or dinner in the evening. My parents are from Portugal and all my uncles were in the portuguese military, many of them were deployed in Angola. My dad grew up in Angola and fled when he was 17 as the civil war heated up. This is pretty awesome to see though, Im glad you were able to get one. Truly fascinating. I'm surprised they don't get brandy or cordial like some of the italian MREs. Id love to see the other version you talked about or one with salt cod because I'm SURE theres gotta be one with that dish lol. keep up your videos, your def one of the more entertaining and fun reviewers Ive seen. Did the other reviewer ever send you the italian cordial liquor to try?

Janet Silva Breakfasts in Portugal are actually pretty diverse. Some people overeat and some people don't. Your parents' experience doesn't account for the whole of Portugal. Oh, and our lunch times are at 13 pm mostly, specially in public services.
@danielt.8573
@danielt.8573 7 жыл бұрын
Breakfasts aren't sparse, they are diverse according to the person's taste just like any meal. Jelly isn't marmelada, marmelada is a jelly [ from the marmelo fruit ]. Same thing with bananada or goiabada. Also you mentioned it as kind of a joke but as a portuguese I actually like the idea of being associated with "our" cod. It's delicious! Same with our sardines, tuna, wine, oranges, apples, pears, coffee, cheese, milk, enchidos, potatoes, honey, tomatoes, peppers, favas, sugar, rice, pastéis de nata, açorda, olives, olive oil, dry fruits or even pineapples and bananas. There's a reason why we win lots of international prizes almost everywhere. Sorry for my complete lack of humility here. About this ration: cheap stuff to make our soldiers feel the motivation to save their nation and the true, better flavors they want and therefore must protect. :)

This is awesome, and different. Brute force approach, applies to A lot of different rations. In my case, ( Peelable SEAL ) on U.S. MRE's . LOL . Please refresh my memory on FRED device, lol, forgot what you said acronym meant. Finally got A look at Alligator, thank you. Liquid added, helps scorching on bottom, agreed. Pull ring failure, rare. LOL, on Con carne , not much carne ? Sardine mixture, well, confusing? Glad the chilli tasted good. Mix crackers, gundog it up A bit, Scottsman mentioned that on his reviews this A.M. Great job as always sir, Peace, John.

I just did a You Tube search for " Ração, individual de Combate ". I now know why so many rations have a plastic bag included. It shows the men eating with the bag over their mess kits. No cleanup! kind of like walking the dog (if you know what I mean) just turn the bag inside out, Viola! your done! " FAB & Indústria de Defesa - Ração Operacional " is the videos title.

Anyone out there really like ration and MRE videos who also loves ASMR videos who would be interested in a channel that does ASMR ration videos? Not enough ASMR caters to both genders at once. I would like to. Also, I love this guys channel and others like it, so interesting. Those MREs are not cheap to buy esp the Non USA ones.

Actually it's more likely because it's cheaper in Spain, and since transportation costs within Portugal and between Portugal and Spain should be similar, spanish products become cheaper than portuguese products.

The items are actually in Spanish because they are Made in Spain, it is pretty common to have items with a small white tag in Portuguese when they aren't labeled in Portuguese. That's due the fact that Portugal just imports lots of stuff.

As ration packs go it sucks. It's massively tin plate heavy, which means your expending way too many calories just carrying the thing. Just taking a leaf out of the French & German ration play books by using soft cans would improve things vastly.

I'm from portugal and just found your channel, next time don't put so many water in the coffee, in here we like it strong and short(basically an expresso). You'd expect them to use National Brands. Most of it is from spanish brands that are quite unusual on our side of the Iberian Paeninsula. How disappointing you didn't eat anything remotly portuguese, not even the tissue paper... which is quite disappointing considering we have one of the best Toilet/Tissue/Napkin paper brands. So popular that in Japan they pay about 20 dollars /Euros for a small amount of it and High end hotels and restaurants in Japan carry Renova napkins and toilet paper...

True but our armed forces are our first line of defense ( not that it would matter considering Portugal's size) but handing the the production of Rations to countries that have historic rivalries is a bit Risky. In terms of Army food I think Each country should as much as possible be responsible for their own Rations. Depending on foreign countries for sustenaince and mainly having our defense forces depending on foreign countries is not a smart move. But then agan who are we to complain? There have been many wars and conflicts that ended and were lost not because of an Army's skill , but due to food shortages and contamination. We'd expect Sovereign nations to be more mindeful of that. Strategy also includes anticipating potential sources of poisoning or handicaps ( if the supply was cut)... I know I'm just a civilian... but I can't help but think why won't armed forces consider things like this.

Was in a lot of pain tonight about day and half since my knee replacement. You Steve and RC Gusto help take my mind off my pain. Thanks.
