@@arc0006 You're correct 100% breaking someone's arm is a psychotic thing to do if on purpose which is was in this case, so if Danaher gets pissed at someone he what simply permanently injures them ridiculous logic. LOL at all the cowards in this comment section that just go along and make excuses for that kind of behavior the fact is if it can happen to someone who simply wants to roll then it can happen to anyone and the instructor or competitor is not always right. I find a lot of cult like behavior in jiu jitsu clubs with people really sucking up to their coach's.

They weren't sparring. John was trying to teach him a move (it's a private lesson) and as he was showing the move, the guy started sparring to get the jump on him. That's essentially assaulting him because he didn't agree to sparring. If I am showing you a move and you do that to me, I am going to try and rip your arm off too.

I mean dude thats just salt, I get that you are a bjj fanatic, but there’s other grappling martial arts, like judo or wrestling. And its not uncommon for people to do front headlocks, a lot of beginners in combat sports come with the misguided notion that they have to show they’re not weak, or that they are tough/talented/etc… to earn respect. Its super common, to punish a beginner for being a beginner when you’re a master is an absolute dick move, he could’ve stopped the role and talked to the guy if he felt threatened. But he didn’t he just wanted to show the guy he was able to hurt him because he has spent more time rolling around the ground in pajamas than him. I mean if I go to a bjj class and a purple belt tries to bully me am I entitled to pull a weapon and cause bodily harm on him because I feel threatened? Absolutely not. Dogshit whitebelt logic, and if you’re not, whoever promoted you should reconsider.

This is literally the equivalent of being given a boxing lesson by an iconic boxing mind such as Mike Tyson and then while he is explaining something to you, you just sporadically decide to start punching him in the face out of nowhere; You best expect that he will dish it back at you tenfold, making damn sure your body doesn't forget the experience. Scumbag absolutely deserved the broken arm. Breaking the arm is frankly quite forgiving considering he could have very easily broken something far worse such as a leg joint.

Idk what reality you made up, but 1) generally when you roll Jiu jitsu you have to sign waivers that you can be injured 2) you can’t file a police report for getting a broke arm in Jiu jitsu unless you were tapping and they kept cranking, 3) many arm breaks can happen instantly or quickly, it’s part of the sport, you can’t train unless you are open to that, 4) that exact reason is why you don’t try to be rude to your peers. 5) why would a name be given, people get injured everyday in Jiu jitsu and no one cares.

If you don’t show restraint and respect to someone who is trying to teach you, to someone who you’ve paid money to because you want to learn from them…then expect them to fuck you up. Is it assault? Yeah maybe. You could also argue self defence. Regardless of which side of the fence you sit on, there’s people out there that will fuck you up if you disrespect them. There’s people out there that are willing to escalate the situation far beyond what you believe is appropriate. So play nice with others

@@elenchus The only light this event should be discussed in is one of condemnation. Break someone’s arm if your life or personal safety is in peril. Not to protect your ego. This is a combat sport. Sometimes guys come at you and test you. Get over it. I can’t think of a poorer response. Especially in the context of being an ambassador for the sport. How does this promote BJJ? The other issue is that this should not be discussed at all. Ok. Things happen in dojos, but don’t kiss and tell. Certain matters should be handled with discretion rather than put on public display. It’s a classless move.

@@SteveSSBBI can understand your point, but in the context we were given this wasn't a competition. This was a private training session. It sounds like this guy just started dangerously spazzing on John's neck. In competition it's understood you're putting everything on the line, the idea of safety reasonably goes out the window. I don't think it does while training. John breaking the guy's shoulder isn't cool, but that guy putting an obviously dangerous amount on anyone's neck sure isn't either. Let alone someone trying to give him technique advice. I say this as someone who isn't the biggest fan of Danaher's public persona, but with the context given it doesn't seem like a ego driven move. Seems like an over response to being put into an unexpected amount of danger.

In actual real life... I saw a blue belt I used to train with start a fight at a bar in Tampa with his ex gf's new bf.... The blue belt pushed the untrained loser, got punched right in his jaw, then literally thrown across a bar table in the middle of a crowded group and wound up unconscious on the beer covered floor of the Round Up. Training in any one format doesn't make you any sort of expert. I started training JJ after that because I had ZERO ground game, but dont ever think you're special because you know one discipline - especially one that doesn't teach you how to throw your hands.

Cameron was really good and got his black belt a couple of years later. Maybe the guy in your story was soft and not battle tested.
