In episode 5 of GUNPLAY, we'll be taking a look at the firearms of F.E.A.R. a horror first person shooter from Monolith Productions, released in 2005.
The five aspects of GUNPLAY are as follows:

Quick note about this video. You may notice that the "weight" section is missing from the five aspects. I removed it because while editing I found that section to be incredibly boring and not really worth mentioning. Future episodes however will include this section. Next episode is going to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but please let me know what other games you would like to see in the comments below (not Tarkov, I have had literally hundreds of comments requesting it, I see you guys out there lol)

@@clu_snake | It's a mixed bag. "F.E.A.R. Extraction Point" has better maps than even the firs game, but virtually nonexistent story and character deaths that make no sense. "F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate" has an actual interesting story and a setup for a promising sequel (which never happened, obviously), but bad map design, lighting and texturing. Still, both are better than the official sequels that killed the series. :-o

I don't often post comments on "old" videos because I reckon the creator won't see them... but in this case, I need to commend you for highlighting things I've never seen highlighted in other retrospectives on "F.E.A.R." Despite "F.E.A.R." being my favourite game, I've always felt the guns were oddly quiet and the reload animations nonexistent, but since nobody ever mentioned these details, I reckoned nobody cared. I'm glad to find a KZbinr who pays attention to such details! Also, perhaps you should review gunplay in famous *bad* games, especially sequels to good games. I can only imagine how you'd curse the gunplay in "F.E.A.R. 2" and "F.E.A.R. 3". :-p

*Clu uploads a new video* *It's FEAR Related* It's gonna be a damn good day. Can't wait for more videos! I long for a FEAR Remaster. FEAR still has the best A.I I've seen. Even alot of today's Military/tactical shooters still don't have AI as smart as this. The fact that they will flash bang you. Some Suppress you and the others Flank you, While your in a fight with them, is amazing. I don't think there's a game today that has that level of A.I. If there is I'd like to know.

New sub from me. I like how you were objective and not just loving up the game because everyone else does. I also love that you describe gunplay as a combination of things that culminates as a feeling. Far too often I see people praise gunplay in games where the guns don't actually feel good to use, they're just cool. Doom 2016 is my main example. The guns in that game feel quite weak, I could never really put a finger on why, but people go crazy over it and I think it's just because you're not really allowed to be controversial with doom. Anyway, I'm spiraling lol. Love the content, I really look forward to seeing the rest of it, if it's as genuine and objective as this. Cheers!

As genuinely worthy remakes and remasters are becoming more common, FEAR has been coming to mind. This game deserves it. I'm not sure who's hands I would want on the project, though. Tripwire? Devolver? The Half Life 2: MMod team? I'd say New Blood in a heartbeat if I thought they would want to work on something with a 'realistic' aesthetic like this.

In truth, F.E.A.R was originally published by Vivendi Universal (via Sierra Entertainment), but that detail only relates to the transition to Warner Bros. Interactive that resulted in the F.E.A.R expansions from Vivendi's side via Timegate Studios & possibly more than F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin's full name on Monolith's side (I know Grim Beard summarised that tale in their "Grimbeard Diary" on the sequel). But while I can only speak as a spectator/observer (I have yet to give F.E.A.R a proper play for myself as I hadn't quite finished tweaking & configuring my Steam copy before opting for the GOG version once I get new & bigger storage), F.E.A.R still holds strong appeal for me as a game that puts the 'Play' in Gunplay (Especially when folks like Rabbit's Respawn & his mate Time Fool show it off at it's absolute finest).

The enemies are actually working together like a proper tactical assault team, they try to flush you out with granades, try to flank you, take cover etc. I haven´t played a FPS that had similar style of enemy A.I. since F.E.A.R.
