Since the godzilla already in his tail, there's no room to climb anymore. Unless if he make a dive first to gain speed & energy then climb.

What i love about this scene is that it behaves exactly like how an animal would in a situation where it's unsure of what's happening. It flees. It's the first time it gets attacked by guns and machines, and ofc as an apex predator it's probably the first time it gets attacked at all, if ever. So it chooses to flee, and assess the situation. When the helicopters chase it, it only turns around to attack once it's sure of their pattern and behaviors. A lot of movie with giant monsters just go "the mosnters get angry and fight back immediately" which is not a normal behavior in nature especially for predators.
@stathispapadopoulos7926 Жыл бұрын
He didnt say what animals flee when they see humans, he said they flee once attacked. Most animals when they hear gunshots or ar hit by a bullet from ranges they thought were safe will panic and immediately flee. I personally dont consider this Godzilla as part of the overall Godzilla story created by Japan and instead consider it something seperate, and by itself, it is a decent film. However this film as far as effects go is one of those that aged like a fine wine, along with the likes of Jurassic Park and Starship Troopers. The film is a technical marvel for 1998. That being said, Nick does deserve a cameo in the new Godzilla movies

To everyone in this comment section saying that Godzilla doesn't run from the military, i completely agree with that, but you also have to admit it's actually a pretty smart strategy in this scene. He lures them along, making them exhaust all their ammunition and then strikes back when they run out. I personally love that kind of strategy. Let your opponent swing at you enough times until they exhaust themselves and then you strike back, sensible and effective.

I always felt like the military were the bad guys watching this as a kid and they story was a Greek Tragedy
@EternalRoman Жыл бұрын
Technically it is. The creature doesn't understand its role in this world that birthed it. It is not part of the natural order because it is a hybrid Mutation, one of a kind and to be attacked they way it is is tragic. Many joked when it hugged the building like it was "humping it" but I always thought it was a wail of pain and suffering, screaming in sorrow and confusion. I think that is the only thing the original Japanese Godzilla is missing, because all Godzilla represents in the Japanese stories is anger, rage and vengeance, instead of being confused and afraid like any animal would be, even it's a few hundreds of feet tall, and highly radioactive.
@dmin5782 Жыл бұрын
@@EternalRomanShin Godzilla touched on that theme. But yeah, I wished more Godzilla stories would deal with Godzilla's place in the world from his perspective.
@EternalRoman Жыл бұрын
@@dmin5782 Shin Godzilla never expressed pain, he seemed to be mindless, something without thought. He did look like a burned victim walking rigid and with its hands stiff, but he seemed aimless. Now, there scenes where he indeed seemed suffering and it was when he screamed to the air. Everytime he would raise his head and screamed to the sky, he seemed to be in horrible pain, and obviously when he was hurt by the bombs on its back. Also, obviously again when he was evolving and needed to cool off, when he sprinted towards the water it was clear that it hurt. But when the military attacked it, he didn't seem to be phased at all, and his reactions could be presented like a defense mechanism like a Jellyfish would react. Which is funny cause Shin Goji was theorized to be a colony organism like the Portuguese Man O' War.
@dmin5782 Жыл бұрын
@@EternalRoman Yeah, Shin looks soulless and stiff, but he is full of pain inside. I'm pretty sure that was their intention to highlight how out-of-control Shin's evolution was; that not even he could control his own body. I'm also certain that theme during his first Atomic Breath sequence was written from his perspective as well. The lyrics are just tragic.
@EternalRoman Жыл бұрын
@@dmin5782 Yeah, that's what I said, during his different evolutions, and when he overheated, he did seemed to be suffering horrendous pain and when he was hit by the missiles. I did find it interesting the allegory with Shin Goji being a colony creature, like the Man O' Wars, because of their mindless existence. So instead of seeing Shin Goji in the traditional "Rage and Vengeance filled monster" we see an almost unstoppable, mindless animal with horrible powers just walking aimlessly through everything and everyone as it painfully evolves. That is very scary indeed and with that take, definitely makes Shin Goji very scary. The asexual reproduction, was even scarier because he acted like a macro titanic virus, splitting and evolving into even scarier forms before he is frozen.

Legit question: But is it actually possible for buildings to hold up (if only temporarily) if they have holes in them? Like the Metlife building and the building the choppers were firing at? Cause one would think the buildings would collapse in on themselves.

You have this skyscraper sized monster right in front of you and literally all of the gun fire misses. Actually that sounds about right for the US military.

Do you realize that that this movie was released in 1998? The CGI was always like that back then.
