Our executive producer Scotty is a gun virgin. Although he is a big supporter of the Second Amendment, he has never even handled a firearm. So we decided to teach him the basics of operating and shooting a firearm.

Never, never, NEVER let an opportunity to help someone learn something useful go by. Your store of knowledge will not be diminished by sharing it. Your ability to be righteously angry and not gun somebody down will be improved, it will be exercised and, in some cases, it will be narrated to the object of your anger, breath by breath. Never let it go by.

Shot plenty of fire arms, from pistol to rifle, shot gun 12, 20 gauge, single shot, pump action, over and under, 50-cal, even fully auto. Even own multiple guns. Sure they can be good home defense and having it feel much safer but do you really need to open carry your side arm while getting lunch at Wendy’s in suburb? It’s 2018 for fuck sake and you people say USA is the best country in the world (which isn’t true at all), but can’t even go outside to get food without caring your weapon? Why is American people so paranoid about US govt going commie over knight or some other unrealistic drama?

My father had a firearm collection that looked like Redstone Arsenal. My brothers and I were qualifying Expert on an M1 by the time we were 8. Every expedition to the gun range included the obligatory firearm safety drill, which we always lip-synced, but dad NEVER skipped it. Dad was a fanatic for never having a finger on the trigger when not firing, always pointing downrange of people, never having a round chambered when not firing, always being respectful of how potentially lethal your firearm is, always assume responsibility for everything you do with it, and understanding that goofing around with a firearm, even when unloaded and the bolt removed bought one a free trip to behind the woodshed.

I use something like this as a diagnostic when I can't tell why a person's not hitting the target where they say they're aiming. Load a revolver randomly with live rounds and cases or dummy rounds. Hand it over, saying "okay, you've got six rounds, take them slowly" What they do on the dummy "shots" will give me a wealth of information about what's happening.

Master Basser Some people are slow learners, they still need to know how to properly handle a gun. I started shooting in basic training, in which period I got kicked off the range and got my hand hit with a paddle because I flagged the dsg 3 times with a loaded gun. but Im definitely more cautious of my gun handling now.
@brandononeal543

Master Basser I agree bout the finger on the trigger, I was disappointed with the video because he could of done a better job showing him proper handling of the firearms, instead he was enjoying making fun of him for not knowing how to handle em, which I get because there friends. But it's not professional especially filming it and putting it on KZbin. When I'm teaching someone bout guns I don't let em touch the gun till after I show them clearing the gun and proper finger placement, and always treating em as if they were loaded

The trigger isn’t the safety. The only safety is your finger. If you’re finger isn’t on the trigger it won’t go off, and if it isn’t on the trigger ready to fire then the safety on the gun should be in anyway. Sure freak accidents happen, but as a general rule, no finger on the trigger=no boom

Good video.....as a one time registered instructor in pistol, rifle and shotgun I found a surprising amount of difference between 'newbies'..... I often found that women were often easier to teach because they didn't have the idea in their heads that being male, they were born knowing how to shoot, and they did listen to what I was telling them... LOL... It's always a buzz to take a beginner to the range and see their eyes light up as they really get what it's all about.....

Though not a certified instructor, I had taken a lot of first time shooters to the range and taught them the basics, and also found women to be much better students, be much more attentive during the initial instruction, and also be much better shooters when at the range for the first time.

I wish I could give more than one upvote. On Christmas 2014, we took my daughter and son-in-law to the range. She had never handled ANY guns before. We had a couple of Ruger SR22s, a Ruger 10 22 rifle, a 9mm and my Bursa Thunder 380. My daughter is very petite. With that being said, she decided to learn how to handle the Ruger SR22 and then the Ruger 10 22 rifle. She learned she is an excellent shot!! She leaned to respect the gun!! She learned that handling a gun is not a life ending experience! We had the little plinking metal target set out about 20 yards for the 22s. She kneeled down on one knee and PLINK hit the target. She was thrilled!! It was such a wonderful experience!

Something to know is you cant shoot in the leg. Shooting the leg is more dangerous than the body because of the femoral artery that if shot the person shot will bleed out in 3 minutes aswell as go unconcious within 30 seconds. Thats another reason why officers are tought not to shoot for the legs.
@Bob5mith
@Bob5mith 5 жыл бұрын
No. Officers are taught to aim center mass to increase the likelihood of hitting the target, and of hitting something vital. The goal is to stop someone. If you shoot them in the heart or lungs they will stop much faster than if you shoot them in the femoral artery.

Criminal Justice major here! A question was asked to my professor in my freshman policing class and it was "couldn't a police just shoot them in the leg and not kill them." If a police officer could just shoot them in the leg, it's believed that that target isn't that big of a threat and the officer should use non lethal force (beanbag, tazer, etc) and that if an officer has to use the firearm, then they need to shoot to kill and aim for center mass
@wormraper
@wormraper 7 жыл бұрын
not to mention that shooting in leg is FRAUGHT with risks. 1. Shooting a leg is harder than shooting center of mass. Even if you're a fantastic shot shooting downward at a moving target like a leg is pretty difficult. 2. You're shooting DOWN at the concrete usually. You miss, or that bullet goes through the leg and you've got a ricochet going on. 3. Femeroal artery. Read up on how easy it is to puncture that artery in the leg and how you can bleed out in under 4 minutes if you're not quick and get a tourniquet on. Only people who watch lots of action movies think shooting the leg is a good idea

It's good to expose people to guns. Gun education is the key to protecting our 2nd. When you put a gun in a person's hand and educate them, they begin to understand what the rest of us gun owners already know; guns are fun. There are a lot of people who have no exposure to the gun and it is those people who misunderstand or fear the gun.

@formdoggie5
@formdoggie5 6 жыл бұрын
Upper inside thigh is one of the worst places you can be shot. A broken femur or hip from a round and the resulting cavity that causes has enough room for you to bleed out within it. One of the very few wounds you can still have a relatively high death rate from in modern societies... and then theres a round through the knee which you can bleed out of faster than you can get a tourniquet on (see aforementioned). Legs are one of the few things humans tend to be pretty good at moving, too. Wish you the best of luck if you ever have to attempt it, though.
