I remember that night. My dad was like "Thats what I'm talking about, that's why you shouldn't be listening to that garbage"... God rest his soul he meant well, but in 1989-1990 there was no way a 13 year old into rock music wasn't going to get into GNR's music heavily. Great then and still great today!!!! BTW dad and I were able to laugh about this many times after I was grown. Love you dad!!!

I think that song was more of axl saying yes I’m using these words in a song. No I’m not using them to express my hatred or to support bigotry. I’m just a simple hick who’s grown up around hateful bigots and this is a song about where I come from. But cuz he’s axl and is impulsively blunt and a little loose upstairs that message got lost in the sauce underneath all that rock n roll “I’m doin this cuz fuck yur rules” attitude.

...is it just me or did rock seem to die after guns ended?
@leonies.57557 жыл бұрын
biblical giants it basically ended after nirvana because I personally feel like nirvana just killed the sparkle, exitment and you know sexism. I never liked the sexism shit in rock n' roll but everything around. I'm also a big fan of nirvana, I just wish rock would go on. you know suddenly the musicians dressed like homeless men and hated their life and didn't want anymore. that's where the excitement of the mainstream switched more and more to hip hip. because they still had the excitement.

Watching Duff & Slash at the AMA's.....sad. They had/have such talent...the original GNRs imploded because of drugs/alcohol. Really thankful that none of them died, they came very close, esp. Stephen Adler, who has permanent damage after a drug-related stroke. But at least they pulled themselves together & are alive 25 years later & performing (mostly) together again. Axl was the only one who wasn't into the drugs/booze scene.
@debbietristan1008 жыл бұрын

+iamjeona Axl got cleaned up in the late 80's
@debbietristan1008 жыл бұрын
Sorry, disagree. Axl was never into drugs. That's why he had Steven Adler sign a contract saying that if he didn't stop doing drugs, he would have to leave the band, which is what happened. "Dancing With Mr. Brownstone". Axl's vision about his music was always very clear. He needed therapy to deal with his family issues.
@nicholasreando16178 жыл бұрын
+debbietristan100 you're wrong. I seen an interview from the 90's, Axl was saying there was a period that he was doing what everyone else in the band was doing but he didn't allow it to take control. thats why he wrote Mr. Brownstone & Bad Obsession

Slash and Duff are much cooler today as they’ve grown up and sobered up - they sounded like fucking idiots when they were so slammed they could barely articulate a simple sentence; just came off as way too rock ‘n roll cliche. Slash is an amazing guitar player, Duff is very intelligent and they’re both cool guys so I’m glad they survived their big dumb GNR lifestyle and addictions.

I really think it is as simple as this: There was a stigma that you "can't" say something. So Axl said it. They USED controversy to create fame and interest. Watch the old interviews, then imagine ALL of them without ANY questions about controversy? Is Appetite the #1 selling debut album of all time without the controversial press? It is a GREAT album, one of my favorite ever, but there was a ton of amazing music in that era. The intrigue set GnR apart from the pack.

Jesus Christ aka Yahushua ha"Massiach fed thousands of people by praying to His father in heaven to bless (multiply) the 5 loaves of bread His disciples brought along for their journey. They weren't expecting a massive crowd of fans, (enough to fill a GnR concert) to follow them for hours on foot, out into the wilderness far from the nearest town into the foothills of mountains etc following Christ in those days was literal & involved a lot of physical fitness, lol. What Axl did handing out the stolen bread was a real Robinhood move, fun hijinks, but nothing he couldn't afford to fix up with the owner, not that anyone gives a rip...
