I was a little worried about posting this ranking with my top pick, but I see someone below already beat me to it! 1. Chinese Democracy 2. Appetite for Destruction 3. Use Your Illusion II 4. Use Your Illusion I 5. GNR Lies 6. The Spaghetti Incident? I'm more drawn to this band for the epic vision of rock that Axl has than the "bad boys" glam-inspired version they had on Appetite. I can't deny that Appetite is an extremely cohesive album for the version of rock it presents, and so I have to give it major props for that. If Use Your Illusion came out as one album with the best tracks from each, that would definitely be in the running for favorite, but it's not what we got. Love the styles mix on Chinese Democracy, prefer all three lead guitarists there (Buckethead, Bumblefoot, and especially Robin Finck) to Slash, and the songwriting is just top notch, really don't think there is a single weak track. It's not at all the version of the band on Appetite, but that allows it to not live in its shadow (unlike Use Your Illusion). Still, this is one of the few bands I'm more excited for the songs list than the albums list!

I agree that they lost a lot of their mojo when Izzy left. If you look at the songs he wrote or co-wrote while in the band, they're all incredibly tight and focused. Left to their own devices, Axl and Slash were writing these sprawling epics that ended up just being overly long messes.

Some of his solo albums are still quite listenable, even better than those of his former band. The 1982 Ju Ju Hounds album is a 4 star album. Slash's solo albums are forgettable despite or because of the all-star cast.

My first favourite band, the first band I really loved and the band that made me love music. I’ll always have a soft spot for them, Appetite is without question the album I’ve listened to the most all the way through in my life. The amount of memories, I can listen to that album, close my eyes and be 14 again. I don’t think of them the same way anymore however. I take no pleasure in bashing them, but I must be honest in the way I feel about their music now. 1. Appetite for Destruction * * * * Paradise City doesn’t do it for me anymore, but the rest of the big hitters: Jungle, SCOM, Mr Brownstone, Nightrain, Rocket Queen all still do the trick, great raunchy rock songs. A couple of the deep cuts introduce the ‘Tough guy looking for a fight-Axl’ I’d come to detest on later records, but I don’t mind it nearly as much on here. Their best songwriting, best performances, best riffs and solos can all be found on here. 2. The Spaghetti Incident? * * * I knew second place was up for grabs but still a little surprised to see this record here. Ironically it was a cover album that came the closest to bringing the spirit of Appetite back. This sheds a lot of the excesses from Use Your Illusion, the power ballads take a back seat and Axl is more restrained. Overall a somewhat enjoyable record, better than it’s reputation. 3.Chinese Democracy * * ½ Everyone knows the story behind this album. It’s too long and it came out a decade too late. It’s not an embarrassment however. There is some really cool guitar work and good hooks hidden in there somewhere. The problem is all the mediocre stuff you gotta dig through to find it. 4. Use Your Illusion II * * 14 year old me would be really upset right now but I don’t like these albums at all anymore. Civil War, although admittedly a bit of a cheesy power ballad is the obvious highlight. I really don’t care for the Dylan cover, some of the songs get super long in the back half of the album, and the alternate lyrics Don’t Cry to close the album is one of the weirdest choices ever. Nobody asked for that. I could see myself dropping another half star off of this if I ever listen to it again. 5. Gn’R Lies * ½ Side one is by-the-numbers Guns N’ Roses B sides, nothing good but not really bad either. On mostly acoustic side two everything falls apart. The You’re Crazy rework is one of the most pointless songs ever put to tape. 6. Use Your Illusion I * ½ This is the one album where Axl totally ruins it for me and makes it a slog for me to sit through the whole thing. Whether it’s tough-guy Axl or woe-is-me Axl, his presence on this thing is suffocating. I don’t have much good to say about the rest of the record either. With a runtime of 75 minutes, it makes Coma is a particularly unbearable closer.

Agreed...one of the huge problems with Chinese Democracy was it already sounded old as hell when it dropped. 2008 was 5 years too late, at least. It probably would have been better had Axl released it in, let's say 2000 to 2003.

GnR were the first band that I really fell in love with as angsty 13 year old in 1991, just before I discovered grunge and alternative artists. Because of this they hold a special place in my heart, no matter how poorly behaved Axl has been or lyrics that are so cringe worthy in 2021. Perhaps its nostalgia, but to me Axl Rose in 1992 was the coolest man you ever lived, and GnR will always be the most dangerous band of all time. 6. The Spaghetti Incident - No Kramzer, I'm not a Spaghetti Incident enthusiast, although that Chef Boyardee album cover comment was great, and this is a weak batch of songs. "Since I Don't Have You" is good, and there a few highlights, but overall its poor. And ends on a Charles Manson cover. 5. Lies - Never cared much for the first half, and no need for an acoustic "You're Crazy." "Patience" is beautiful and "Used to Love Her" (which I always thought was about a barking dog) are good, as is "One in a Million," with the obvious exception of some very pain inducing lines. 4. Use Your Illusion I - Definitely could've used an editor, several tracks should been left on the cutting room floor "Right Next Door to Hell," "Perfect Crime," "You Ain't the First," "Garden of Eden" certainly immediately spring to mind. But there is great music here, "Don't Cry," "The Garden," the epics "November Rain" and "Coma" -which many people dislike- are amazing. 3. Chinese Democracy - Yes there are bleeps and bloops, but the songs are great. "Madagascar," "Catcher in the Rye," "Better" and "Streets of Dreams" are wonderful. I commended Joe on the 2008 video on his choice; I've always felt the hype and legend of the making of this album overshadow it. 2. Use Your Illusion II - Stating the obvious "Get in the Ring" and "My World" are embarrassing, "Shotgun Blues" and "So Fine" are subpar, and the second "Don't Cry" is unnecessary. But the rest is great. "Estranged" is an all time epic. I'm with Joe, "Locomotive" is great, as is "Breakdown." Their most underrated tune is the fantastic Izzy sung "14 Years." 1. Appetite For Destruction- There is really nothing I can add that millions of others haven't already said. Its not perfect - I never cared for "Out Ta Get Me" nor "Anything Goes" - but as Kramzer accurately stated some of the best hard rock of the past 45 years can be heard here. "Rocket Queen" is as close to a perfect hard rock song as there is.

I absolutely love the first four G N R records. A few years ago I got into their back catalogue and for hard rock I think their sound is so damn good it’s hard to beat. Appetite for Destruction is the best hard rock album period. Even some of the songs that you mentioned as being formulaic I still love, like Don’t Damn Me, Back off Bitch, and Locomotive. These are great hard rock songs in my books. I also love Axl’s ballads: Don’t Cry, Estranged, Civil War, and of course November Rain stands up to Stairway to Heaven as one of the best rock epics. After Use Your Illusions they did fall off the map, I’m not a huge fan of the covers album and Chinese Democracy is just too much of a deviation from the G N R sound, more like an Axl solo album. Anyways here’s my ranking: 6. Chinese Democracy 5. The Spaghetti Incident? 4. G n R Lies 3. Use Your Illusion I 2. Use Your Illusion II (these two are almost equivalent, but I prefer II because it’s a bit more diverse as an album listen) 1. Appetite for Destruction

I was a big GNR fan back in the late 80s/early 90s. Appetite For Destruction came out when I was about 12, the Use Your Illusion albums when I was 16. Saw them live in 1993 (Blind Melon opened). I don't listen to them a ton anymore aside from the occasional song on the radio, but revisiting these albums, my general take is that Appetite is a classic, and everything else is kind of a mess. So, my ranking is as follows: 1. Appetite for Destruction. This is a 5-star classic. Every song is awesome. 2. Use Your Illusion I 3. Use Your Illusion II I had trouble ranking these, and both are really flawed albums. The general consensus is that II is better, but my take is that: 1) the lows are much lower on II, and 2) the biggest songs -- Civil War, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, and You Could Be Mine first appeared on other albums. When I saw them live, they played way more stuff off of I. 4. Lies. Like Use Your Illusion II, half this album is just a re-release of an existing EP (2 of which are covers). So, basically, it's 3 new songs, one of which is "Patience", but one of which is "One in a Million". Meh. 5. The Spaghetti Incident. I agree that they don't really do anything to any of these songs that needed doing, but still, it's a pretty cool collection of songs. 6. Chinese Democracy. Not good.

Another great video, guys’! Thank you. I don’t have a lot to add, other than that Appetite is the obvious winner and, I’m not sure what others think, but I’ve always viewed the Use your Illusion records to be a ‘double album’ I don’t understand the reasoning behind the decision to release them separately. To this day, I couldn’t recite the individual track-listings; they merge into one for me. A very messy collection, granted!

I am guilty. I bought that album back in 1987. We could have stopped it back then. We wanted to see something there that did not exist but seemed to be there on first listening...it faded quickly. 1. Appetite for Destruction (Sweet Child O' Mine is a great song - still is - most others are far too long with a singer like this.) 3 stars 2. Use Your Illusion II (I had a CD player by this time but never used the skip function prior to this album. I soon found that I skipped more and more tracks every time I put on this record. The one that stayed longest was a cover...) 3 stars 3. Use Your Illusion I (Same as II, just the point when I skipped all except for 1 track came much earlier. This time it was missing the strong cover..?) 2,5 stars 4. Chinese Democracy (Was this the one they recorded in some Swiss hotel closed for the off season in 10 days after some stupid burned down the Casino next door? Great stuff is often created under such circumstances.) 2,5 stars 5. The Spaghetti Incident? (The best songwriting of all their albums - some DIY punks could have formed those songs into everlasting gems.) 1,5 stars 6. GNR Lies (The best thing about the album is its length.) 1,5 stars In the end it turned out that the best records were made by the rhythm guitarist...

Good summary by K. Was in high school when they hit and it was super intense and refreshing. Taken out of context they are not very good. Rose and the swing of Adler made that first album for me. Nothing else was any good really ... the Illusion thing was like an already-over-the-hill overly polished Eagles “Long Run” type sheen. “Estranged,” “Coma” .... slim pickings over two packed CDs. Too bad - was over as soon as it began for them .... Rose was a talented guy. Slash to me was nothing special. Sorry. I just read the Gorman Black Crowes book and see some parallels...seems GNR should have been great for years and just couldn’t get out of their own way. The rhythm player and Adler I think were key boiler room type guys - can’t afford to lose guys like that.

I was a huge GNR fan, saw them in a small club before Appetite came out and you could see they were ready to be huge. But then I saw them on the UYI Tour, and being older by then, I was getting tired of Axl's nonsense (not coming on stage on time being the big one) at this point. Still got the covers album, but I was done with them and didn;t even give CD a chance (much like the rest of the music industry anyway). 6. Chinese Democracy (can't think of a song I've heard on it and don't care if I ever do) 5. The Spaghettis Incident? (my favorite song on it is Ain't It Fun) 4. Lies ( If there were more songs and remove One In A Million may have been higher) 3. Use Your Illusion II (the fillers on this are dreadful as time goes by, but Locomotive is really good, not sure what Jason and Kramz thought there) 2. Use Your Illusion I (the fillers on this are still more enjoyable to listen to than on II) 1. Appetite For Destruction (classic desert island album for me)

Good show, guys. Much better than the Supergrass lovefest or the Boston dumpster fire. The format works best when there are honest differences of opinion that are hashed out in a friendly manner. GNR is not a favorite band of mine, but this time I do have opinions. 1. Use Your Illusion I 2. Appetite for Destruction 3. Use Your Illusion II 4. GNR Lies 5. Spaghetti Incident 6. Chinese Democracy I have never actually listened to Chinese Democracy, and I don't think I ever will. By the time it came out I was totally done with Axel. So it falls to the basement by default.

My album order is written in stone for the #1 and #6 albums but everything in between changes accordingly to my mood. 1. Appetite 5 star album IMO 2. Illusion I 3. Illusion II 4. Lies 5. Spaghetti 6. Chinese Democracy- I actually gave it another try after Joe recommended it on 2008 show, but I still hate it. It’s an Axl solo album plain and simple.

It's certainly too bloated, but by cutting a third of the songs out, it could have been a real classic. My pick of 21 (rock on one side, slightly slower on other) would have been: UU1: Right Next Door to Hell, Live and Let Die, You Could Be Mine, Perfect Crime, Double Talkin' Jive, Locomotive, Don't Damn Me, Dust n' Bones, Pretty Tied Up, Garden of Eden, Coma. UU2: November Rain, Yesterdays, Civil War, Don't Cry, The Garden, 14 Years, Breakdown, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Bad Obsession, Estranged.

I’m pretty much with Joe on the ranking of this one and would call myself somewhat of a fan - my list would just swap and have Lies at #4 and Chinese Democracy at #5 instead. I actually used to prefer Use Your Illusion II to Appetite back in the day since the big epics like “Estranged”, “Civil War” and “Breakdown” really appealed to me and still do, though I acknowledge the “parental advisory” songs like “Get In The Ring” and “Shotgun Blues” aren’t quite as entertaining or hilarious to my 41 year old brain as my juvenile teenage self once thought (I’m still quite fascinated with Axl’s bipolar personality and what he was thinking on his creative decisions overall though). I guess that album is more in the mid 4 star range for me now, as opposed to the borderline high 4/low 4.5 of Appetite.

At one point I would say Appetite for Destruction was my favorite album.. Of all time. I really liked Guns N' Roses from early years and loved them even more in my teens.. But the breakup and lack of new albums (jaja Chinese Democracy) made Guns N' Roses fall behind when I started to discover Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Queen and the rest of the classic bands. Like so many other bands of their time they just have too long albums. Very great rock and roll, nice ballads and ambitious epics but there just is too much on each record. Two "Don't Cry"?.. A part from AfD they really should have had someone to trim their albums. I totally agree on that. Both Use Your Illusions should have been shorter and some tracks could been left off completely. I also think the hits are often the strong songs but there were plenty hits and some albumtracks are really good too. I actually won Green Day tickets for a radio-thing using November Rain as a concept once :D

It's "Appetite for Destruction" by a HUGE margin then the rest. "The Spaghetti Incident" is one of those albums you saw in bargain bins at record stores everywhere throughout the 90s and 2000s collecting dust. "Use your Illusion" 1&2 is full of filler. Had they combined the actual good material into a single album it would've been pretty strong but they split it up for an obvious cash grab. "Chinese Democracy" is basically an Axle Rose solo project that only has 2 good songs. I don't hate GNR by any means but they are an EXTEMELY overrated band.

I'm a huge Guns N Roses fan. Was my favorite band for a few years (till replaced by the Beatles). 6. The Spaghetti Incident? - I'll give credit to the choice of covers, but that's about it. 5. Chinese Democracy - "Better" is really good, the rest I haven't listened to since. 4. Lies - A big jump to the last two. I prefer the acoustic side. "Patience" is fine, perhaps a little too "precious" and I think "One in a Million" is great musically a nightmare lyrically. I get why he dropped the N-word in there, but it's obnoxiously tone deaf. Though to be fair, it's in Rolling Stones songs ("Sweet Black Angel") or Elvis Costello ("Oliver's Army"). There's also the homophobia but it's used in the same vein as Dire Straits "Money for Nothing". 3. Use Your Illusion II - more solid than I, but "Get in the Ring" is a dated embarrassment and "My World" is perhaps the worst thing ever from a band I love. 2. Use Your Illusion I - I had this on tape, I never listened to anything between "Don't Cry" and "Double Talkin Jive" I thought the second side was really good (starting with "November Rain") except for "Bad Apples" 1. Appetite for Destruction - A masterpiece, my 6th favorite album of all time, and was also #1 for a while. Not perfectly solid which keeps it from being in the top 5. I was 7 when this first came out and my sister (who is 8 years older than me) listened to a lot of hair metal (Motley Crue, Poison) and this was the first time music sounded "special" to me. I couldn't put my finger on it at the time but I could tell this was better than the usual music my sister listened to, and for that it will always be a special album to me. If "live" albums or in this case live VHS tape counted (since I don't think it was ever officially released as an album) their live show from the Ritz in 88 would be #2, and ranks up there with my favorite Spingsteen shows as favorite live works of all time. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Out Ta Get Me" (one of the few songs I don't like on Appetite) are vastly superior to their studio counterparts. And Is "I Used to Love Her" any worse than say than the Beatle's "Run For Your Life" In fact I would say less so because it's clearly more comical with lines like "and I can still hear her complain" or "she's buried right in my back yard" Great video as usual guys, was really looking forward to this one.

Here's mine: 1) G'N R Lies - One in a Million didn't age well, but this has a great mix of up-tempo rockers and laid back acoustic stuff. It's more lean and digestible than any other album in their discography. 2) Appetite for Destruction - Still love it, but there are a handful of tracks that just don't do it for me (It's So Easy, Anything Goes). 3) Use Your Illusion 1 - Easily the strongest of the pair, even though it's bloated. Lob off about five tracks and it would be stronger than Appetite. 4) Use Your Illusion 2 - I love about half of it and either don't care or strongly dislike the rest. Get in the Ring sucks. My World is unlistenable. Alternate Don't Cry doesn't carry the same weight. Meh. 5) Chinese Democracy - It plays like an archival release rather than a proper album, so if you approach it that way, it's easier to appreciate. The bad tracks are really bad. Otherwise, better than it's rep. 6) The Spaghetti Incident - Ill-advised covers album that has nothing remotely memorable, except for the hidden Charles Manson cover. Democracy wins because at least it isn't boring!

My first exposure to Guns N' Roses was at the age of eleven on a summer holiday to the States in 1987, when "Sweet Child o' Mine" came on the radio. I saw them in 1991 at Wembley Stadium during their _Use_ _Your_ _Illusion_ tour (which I just found out was Izzy Stradlin's last concert with the band). By that time, I'd grown tired of waiting for new material, and when it did finally appear it was disappointing. Thereafter I lost interest. I still think _Appetite_ _for_ _Destruction_ is a classic.

At their peak they were the most interesting rock band we've ever seen: they combined attitude, the songs, the musicianship. No one has ever sounded like Axl. Could anyone else have ever written November Rain or Estranged? They were on another level. Axl was the best frontman ever in his prime from '87 to '90 but it was Freddie for the entire career IMHO. He thinks Queen and GNR are overrated? Come on...And ..Locomotive 0 stars? Lyrics are amazing. I agree the production on CD could have been better but the songs are so unique and strong. Ok.. So.. I've decided for this to be a separate new post: 17 July, 2022: I actually wrote this on 11 July, 2022 and I've edited this before posting. I had a epiphany moment yesterday after all this cleansing. Back in late 2020.. It was announced GNR were coming back to Sydney.. So I got tickets.. Back in late 2020. But it wasn't that easy.. To get the tickets.. It was complicated.. But I've decided not to go into that here. At the time I was semi excited about it.. But I thought to myself.. Oh.. I'm not overly excited about this.. Hmmmm. Nonetheless.. Purchased tickets.. For my partner and myself as she is keen to go.. Not a huge fan like myself(that I used to be).. But loves their hits. So earlier this year.. I thought to myself.. Hey I better start getting back into fanatical GNR mode soon.. And I felt half hearted about that and thought.. Yeah.. I will.. In a few months time.. Just Not feeling it right now. Then a month ago.. I thought.. You know soon.. I should get in Big GNR mode.. And I thought to myself.. Yeah.. Soon enough. Then I started to express my thoughts here... And went to Re visit the Illusion albums.. Then realized yesterday that I am never going to be in that fanatical GNR mode again.. Like All in.. And that I don't have to be.. I've moved on. This Re Assessment was to do with that. Because I kept thinking how am I going to get into that full on GNR mode before the concert.. Then yesterday realized that I don't have to do that.. Nor am I capable of doing that.. As that is not where I'm at anymore.. Nor do I have to force myself to be there. I will just go along on the day with my partner.. Casually and with the intention of just enjoying the show. But I will never see GNR again. I will never pay to see them again.. That's it.. That's the last time. I think they are up for retirement after this.. At least Axl is. Slash still has quite a few years left in him. Have contemplated selling the tickets.. Though my partner is keen to see them.. And Unlikely to get the full value for them. It will be fun at least. So.. I'll go.. One last time.. Then I'm done.

I went through a GnR kick about 2 months ago and came out basically with this opinion: Appetite is good, but if the Use Your Illusions were condensed together at like 17 songs it would smash Appetite to pieces. Appetite has a lot of "first album struggles" on it in terms of pacing and theres honestly some stuff on there I just think is flat out boring or dull. But I can't live by my beautiful headcanon outside of Spotify...that being said I think I'd probably have one of the UYI albums at the top of my list, but also i recognize that without my playlist there really isnt an album of theirs I can sit through without skipping songs. Also Sweet Child O Mine fucking sucks. The band hates it too so I don't have to stand alone either, god that song is annoying.

I don't think it got me into punk, but a lot of those covers got me to check out bands I didn't know about (I was like 18 when it came out). I never listened to the New York Dolls, the Stooges, the Damned, the Dead Boys or Johnny Thunders, for instance. I think the worst crime of the The Spaghetti incident is that they don't really do anything to make any of those covers their own. They're all pretty much straight up covers of the originals you'd hear from your average cover band at a bar. Their song selection is pretty good though (not sure about the Charles Manson cover, but they can't all be winners).

So, I'm typing this before i hear y'alls opinions. A couple of general points. Chinese Democracy: It's plagued by the fact that Axl chased trends for the decade or so it took to make. So depending on how ya like things, it's either good that it has varied styles, or maybe you hate it for that. I think it should have just been an Axl record, because it doesnt feel like a GnR, or a band, record. It feels like a solo project. I love the title track(and was shocked that Slash pulled of those solos live, as that it not in his usual bag of tricks), There Was a Time and IRS. I think a couple other songs were pretty good(better, sorry), and then a whole bunch I don't care for. I don't think much for the Spagetti record. I like Ain't it FUn, and not much else. I love Symphony from the Devil from the Stones, and it's sacrilege for anyone to cover it. The Illusions suffer a similar issue as Metallica's Load records. SELF EDITING. Too many throw away songs. And also just way too many songs to consume at once. If anything, release them a year apart. Of course there's some fantastic tunes. But overall too many average or lesser tunes that should have been shelved permanently, or kept to be reworked into something better down the road. Tunes I would definitely trash: all the cover tunes(really, two records that long, cut out the cover nonsense), My world(complete shit), Get In the Ring(immature, persecution complex axl at his worst), Breakdown, ONE of the Don't Cry's(WTF), right next door to hell, perfect crime, back off bitch and probably You aint the first. That's like 10 without really thinking about it. If this was whittled down to one record and an EP, it could have been much better. Like everything GnR at that time, it was full of bloat and waste. They sucked on the co-headlining tour with metallica. Metallica and Faith No More were so much better. GnR was much better when I saw them open for aerosmith. The Reunion tour wasn't as good as that, but was much better than the metallica tour.

It's too bad G'N'R doesn't have more of a catalogue to discuss. Appetite is obviously the clear #1. Use Your Illusion 1 and 2 could be #2 or #3 depending basically on which one you liked more both had a combo of filler and epic tracks. People mention splitting up the material into 2 albums as a cash grab and that's part of it but honestly I think it was partly done to split up all of the long, epic ballads or pseudo ballads that made up almost all of their best tracks. If they had made one record it would have Estranged, Don't Cry, November Rain, So Fine, Civil War, and possibly Coma all on it. It would be odd to have that many 6 to 10 minute songs and other ballads on one album by a band in the hard rock genre. You Could Be Mine was one of only a few songs that were A side, album quality tracks that were true rockers.

I've paused video at the 23 minute mark.. As I have a few things to say. I was a die hard GNR fan for many years since 1990. However.. I have moved on from that as I am very eclectic with my music. So a few hours ago I decided to Re visit Appetite.. I had not heard it properly in about 6 years. Even though the hits come on the radio all the time in the car and occasionally I look up the songs live.. And I still consider it to be one of my favourite albums. So I thought.. I better make sure I still actually like it. More about that later. I just finished listening to Use Your Illusion 1 and 2. Wow.. Had not heard them in at least 15 years or more.. Except for the hits/singles which come on the radio in the car all the time. Ok.. About 3 years ago I listened to Use your illusion 1.. Stopped after track 3 I think.. Wasn't enjoying it.. Thought that was weird as I used to praise it. Anyway.. Just this evening went back to it.. Use your Illusion has aged very badly.. It's a cringe worthy album. I just never realized it. Actually when it came out.. When I was 18.. Everyday I would listen to it.. All the time.. One and two.. And some days I would think.. This album is a bit tedious in length.. But Still I would listen to them.. Until I achieved burn out and moved onto some other different bands. So.. Use your Illusion 1.. Is a really dreary depressing bunch of songs.. My Goodness. For me it's part association as well. I was listening to each song wondering how long I'd be able to tolerate them for. I was skipping through them. From Use your Illusion.. I'd keep Perfect crime.. The Garden.. The garden of Eden.. Look.. They are Ok.. They are not special.. It would be good if they were remixed. Probably have Don't damn me remixed and go for 2 and half minutes. Bad apples.. Cut that in half as well. Keep Dead horse. Coma could go for 4 minutes I think.. Actually I didn't even bother with Coma.. As I always found it tedious. Axl does Not sound like he is having a good time recording these vocals.. They sound forced and that he has taken on way too many lyrics. Use your Illusion 2.. I listened to afterwards. A very depressing album for the most part.. Much better album cover in blue. Ok.. So.. I'd keep.. Bare in mind that over the years I've heard these songs many times since the album was released.. So that's 30 years of Retrospect. From Illusion 2.. I'd keep: 14 years.. It's a tolerable song. Yesterday.. I think it could be remixed and shorter though. Pretty tied up.. It's fun. Now.. With Locomotive.. I used to love that song.. But suddenly tonight I found it not well constructed at all. And there is a Un Necessary voice effect on half the song. Locomotive only needs to go for say 5 minutes and to be remixed. So Fine was actually good.. But I've always kind of liked it. Estranged.. My second fav song on the album.. Still enjoy it.. But I think it was over produced.. And my first favourite.. You could be mine.. It's a classic. The rest is embarrassing filler.. And I never need to hear Civil war ever again.. It's a good song/ sort of.. But I don't need to hear it again. Nor do I really need to hear Don't cry ever again.. But I Suppose that could stay.. But I find it a very depressing song now.. Oh Yeah.. November rain.. I skipped it before.. Never need to hear it again.. As I've heard it in the past a Gazelion times.. Am somewhat over it and find the lyrics depressing.. Although.. Although.. The guitar work in it is Damn marvelous. About Use your Illusion.. Which I noticed for the first time this evening.. Axl is trying to/attempting to digest/do/fit in way too many lyrics at once.. And half them are muffled/I used to in my 20's back in the day find this attractive/just accept it. I no longer find this attractive.. And you can barely hear Axl in the mix. There is a great imbalance in the mixing.. And these two albums are way over produced. They have been sugar coated to the max. Use your Illusion would have been better as one album.. 12 tracks.. Under 50 minutes.. Done. Get rid of the keyboards.. Have it raw. Maybe keep the keyboards on Estranged.. But that's it. I Wonder.. Some where in the San Fernando Valley.. If the raw un effected studio isolated tapes of Use your Illusion are laying around somewhere. If so.. Then it would be very interesting if someone was to get those tapes and do a nice raw remixed version of Use your illusion as one album. I also have a raw demo version of Chinese democracy album.. With most the album on it.. Sort of. It was handed to me one night at a metal gig back in 2008. Someone I knew came up to me one night at a gig about 6 months before the album came out.. Handed me the copied CD and said.. I think this is what you are looking for/been waiting for. So Yes.. I wouldn't be able to handle listening to both Illusion albums all the way through.. Way too torturous and depressing. From Spaghetti incident.. The only track I'd give the time of day to is Since I don't have you.. It was very well done.. Not interested in the rest of album. What else.. What else. Haven't heard Chinese democracy in a decade.. Don't intend to. My fav track off the album is Better.. I remember I really liked and have heard it many numerous times. If the world was terrific also and There was a time.. I think I liked Catcher in the rye as well.. And it was either This I love or Prostitute that I enjoyed.. Can't remember. It works much better if you think of Chinese democracy as.. The Axl Rose project.. Which is what Axl should have called it. Now.. In regard of Appetite.. I said to myself.. If I don't like this album anymore.. That's Ok.. I'm willing to accept that. It will be a bit sad.. But I'll be ok with it. As I had not heard it for about 5 -6 years. So I pressed play on it.. Actually half way through Jungle.. As I didn't know if I would be able to hand listening to Welcome to the jungle ever again.. But to my surprise.. It was ok.. It only comes on the radio in the car every other 5 minutes as does Paradise city and Sweet child. So I pressed play.. Ohhhhh.. No open speaker these days.. All on my Beyerdynamic headphones.. DT 770 80 Ohm.. And the verdict for Appetite.. To my pleasant surprise.. I started to automatically sing along.. It was a very smooth listen actually.. Very much enjoyed it.. I can hear all the different aspects with the headphones on. I have my Audio Technica headphones as well.. M50x. Appetite was a very enjoyable listen. Can't even compare Appetite to the disaster that the Illusion albums essentially are. Also.. Over the years now I've always gone back to.. Referred to Appetite rather than the Illusion albums.

Added note: In regard of Appetite.. I heard all the grit and attitude in it. Axl sounds like he is having fun on it. It's a terrific/interesting journey. The album just has a great flow to it.. Seemless. In regard of Illusions. I never need to hear Live and let die ever again.. Or Knockin on heavens door. When in the car and Heavens door comes on my partner likes to hear it.. And she likes to turn the volume up on it.. So I grin and bear it. Also.. Patience comes on the radio in the car every other 5 minutes as well. Ohhh.. I did not mention.. Lies.. Yeah.. Fun album.. Haven't heard it in as many years.. Yes.. I used to enjoy it from time to time.

This is from 8 July, 2022. I check my comments regularly.. And when they get a like.. I get excited then Re read my comment.. Because I got acknowledged. Since I'm thinking it and have written it in my head a few times during the last 12 hours.. I'll say it. I remember back in 1991 when the Illusion albums came out. For some reason I bought them on CD instead of cassette.. But I didn't have a CD player.. But Somehow must have had them copied. I had a mental imbalance back then which effected things I did and continued through out the years.. So what I Would do is listen to the two albums back to back of a day.. And I have been reflecting back to this and thinking on it.. As I always like to.. Try to get to the truth of yesteryear.. It's therapy for me. So when sitting on the edge of my bed and listening to these albums.. I would get to Live and let die and Think.. This is a bit tedious.. And certain other tracks and think.. This is a bit tedious.. But being stubborn in a sense that I would keep listening. I would hear the whole album through.. This is After I had got to know the albums well. But I would Endure the length and be exhausted by the time one album had finished.. Then go onto the next. This continued for months. A friend of mine at the time was way into/Immersed into the Black album.. And he would say to me.. Dude..The Illusions albums.. Way over produced.. Sugar coated to the max.. Could just be one album. I would be defensive of this.. Because.. Embarrassing to admit now but at that point I was pretty much Idolizing Axl.. and Slash to a large extent.. And I could not see through that.. And of a day I'd labour through both albums.. In Fact.. Not listening to any other bands.. Except when my friend would blast the Black album and Morbid Angel when we cruised in his car.. Back in the Good Ol days. Somewhere around Mid 1992.. One day I felt depressed about those albums and I thought I think I need to move onto other music. I mentioned this to a friend.. To a good mate what was happening.. He said.. Ohh Man.. You gotta listen to other stuff.. Listen to a variety of music.. Dude.. That will drive you mad. So I took his advice on board and dislocated myself from GNR overnight.. As all I had in my head was the Illusion albums.. And so I just started to listen to other things.. And I think I heard Appetite again which was Refreshing.. Totally different ball game.. But it wasn't enough because I indeed had achieved Burn out. I know this because GNR were coming to Sydney.. To Eastern creek in early 93.. Middle of Summer and I had my ticket.. And I remember weeks before the gig thinking.. Yeah I'll go.. I've got my ticket.. I haven't heard Gnr for a while now.. But I'll still definitely go. I remember taking a break from GNR from 1993 through about 1997.. Then I remember missing Appetite and Re hearing it and really enjoying it again. I think the one thing saving me from the Illusion thing back then was my eclectic taste in music and that I was able move on. I now have a regret about those years I totally worshipped Axl.. It was a lot of invested energy which I could/should have put elsewhere. It was on and off for years. Somehow.. Late 1999 I found a GNR fan made website.. As I was curious about what was going on with Gnr.. I just had no clue.. Then I found out about Chinese democracy and started to wait for it. I regret Waiting for that album.. But fortunately during that time I had Other things to distract me.. So I wasn't always focused on it.. But to be honest it wasn't worth it now as I look back in retrospect. GNR are now.. A favoirite band.. Amougnst my old favourites. In disconnecting from them as a die hard fan is slightly weird.. However long overdue. When I say die hard.. I was in a large sense.. Because I placed such a huge emphasis on Gnr during certain years. But I have felt that for a while now.. As when I look them up live.. The excitement is not quite there anymore. In all honesty I prefer a band that puts out an album every two years or so. I was thinking about this earlier.. What if Bob Rock got all those original source tapes from somewhere in Nrth Hollywood or wherever they are and just sat down potentially with Mike Clink and remixed those Illusion songs from scratch.. One album.. 50 minutes.. No sugar coating.. The band has no say.. Done. I needed to say all that. Update: 10 July, 2022: Last night I went back again to my version of the Illusion albums in Itunes: Ok.. I can no longer handle Perfect crime.. It's just annoying to me now.. Plus I feel haunted by it. The Garden needs to be only 3 minutes long. Bad apples.. Can't handle that song. Considering that once upon I used to hear these songs often.. But now.. Not anymore. But that's just how it is. If it wasn't like that back then I wouldn't be the person I am today and I wouldn't be having this rant. Right.. So.. I've just checked the GNR timeline. I have a.. I would say a deep regret about having been very invested in this band for as long as I was. In regard of the timeline of GNR. The Illusion album should of came out in 1989.. Six months after Lies.. As one album.. 8 songs. Then.. Then.. Six months later.. The next album with those other Popular hits on it.. Such as November rain: Don't cry: Live and let die: Knockin: Civil war. I think that would have done it. I think for a modern audience.. Someone needs to/should.. Re do these albums the way I have suggested.. It doesn't have to be Bob Rock or Mike Clink.. Just someone with some musical aptitude and common sense. That is all.

Ok.. A few more words. As I am not satisfied with what I said about them being a favourite band of mine. Hmmmm.. In disconnecting from GNR.. Which I pretty much have been for sometime. It's shades of grey for me with GNR. I no longer Idolize them in any regard. Though I still actually think Slash is terrific.. (Didn't like Slash 4 though). Hmmmm.. It's a grey area.. It carries a sadness with it. It's a mixture of things. I am very much into/I love Black metal and Death metal.. Always have.. And Heavy metal in general. I have trauma from this.. And it's mainly due to Axl.. As he is not the ideal frontman in regard of connecting to the audience.. And especially of yesteryear.. And taking way Too long with albums. But yet an electric energy on stage in yesteryear.. Mainly late 80's early 90's.. And a few moments here and there in the 0's and after. Appetite is a terrific album.. Very smooth flowing.. And even the Lies EP is quite good(I never listen to it though). However.. I will keep being able to appreciate Appetite occasionally.. As it is a marvelous album. Ohhhh I remembered what I was going to say. Bloody hell.. What a Rip Off. It was the other night and I was curious about Absurd again.. Which I think is a terrible song.. And I thought I'll watch the live clip just to verify for myself.. Again. Omg.. I thought this sounds oddly familiar.. Why is that.. Then I noticed another clip which said.. Absurd/Silkworms and it clicked. I Didn't realize.. It's Silkworms.. Re Worked from 2000.. It's not new. This is truly dismal on their part.. Not a new song in more than a decade.. And now a Re done version of Silkworms.. Which sounds like it was written by a rebellious teenager or a person in their early 20's.. It's Awful.. And looks and sounds weird with GNR now in their late 50's.. Trying to pull this song off.. It's Ridiculous.
