It was first released by asphalt ballet in 1993. Then later it was covered by Wild side but not until 2004. I wish they would have given it to skid rowe around 89 or 90. It would have been a good fit. If not skid rowe then maybe even l.a. guns. Axl wasn't so much a placeholder but helped them by recording the demo for the song. But he did technically co-write it with Wes and the others - got a writing credit.

You can hear they probably used an old tape to record this. One that has been recorded and recorded over again from the wobbliness - or the old music bleeding through into the new track. Could have even been just a simple boombox on a maxell cassette and when they were old they got a little wobbly too. Although I would love a better recording of it it does give it an interesting quality. I know people say the other bands did a good job on this song but I mean if GNR had done this song it would have been one of the best of the 80's - the vocals are amazing and fit the song so perfectly, the guitar is classic 80's but not over the top - it totally first the song - shredding often isn't needed but added and doesn't always sound good but here it sounds great. I think that maybe Axl felt it was too anti-alcohol, etc. and might be perceived as hypocritical at the time and maybe he felt they wanted a different sound that didn't resemble at all other bands at the time. Not sure, but no one Could have done this song the justice that Axl could have. The outro is amazing and it all comes across so naturally - it doesn't sound strained or difficult for him. It's like the best of the 80s wrapped into one song.

I know Sebastian Bach sang with Axl before - My Michelle and Hair of the Dog - but did Axl ever sing one of Skid Rowe's songs with Sebastian or any other songs with him? I am asking because listening to this it just made me think of Sebastian Bach for some reason. Well, it just made me think about how the only singer that might ever be able to hit the same notes as Sebastian would be Axl. So I wondered if anyone knew. Thanks! And by the way - this is my first time hearing this. It is amazing. Love it!!!!! Thank you for posting!

OK. I knew West pretty damn good. I'll try to leave out the druggy bits to respect his family, friends, and Wendy whom he lived with at the time. West and me were way cool. He was a great songwriter. Axl or not, he was just smart as a whip and knew his shit. Open Tunings. Could flick a thumb and went from G to open D to his favorite Johnny Winter 6 string tuning inside 20 seconds. I was at UCLA and he had a Virgin Publishing Deal from when he wrote Its So Easy. But this song was a leftover. It was on his Cassette Tape the Publishing Company pushed around because, well, it's a damn good rock song. But West Played everything on this from what he told me. Axl sang. There were ads for G&R saying "Fresh From Detox", so I am imagining he wrote that line. So, West liked me as a singer. So did Saul/Slash, but that's a 2nd long story. My Rock Band broke up and I wound up using my UCLA Ties to get inroads to Capitol A&R. After I rose up I was walking down a hallway and the Manager I was working for was talking to the Senior VP and they were both trying to find West Arkeen. I butted in. Yeah, I can get you West, but he won't want to work with that Baby Band you just signed. They looked at me befuddled. I said some uppity thing like, 'West has 4 songs on Use Your Illusions and doesn't need your baby band' crap, but then followed with. "West wants to write for Joe Cocker." "Joe Cocker", the Senior VP looked at me agog. "Yep, If West can get to write for Joe Cocker, I can sell him on whatever bullshit LA Band you're trying to recoup on. I'll deliver him tonight. He lives in a back house in Siver Lake." I went to West's house. Which I won't write about here. But yeah, I think West got 3 or 4 songs places from that. Including Crash Diet. Which my other friend engineered. And is another story. West Arkeen had demons galore. But was super, duper fun. And got us all kicked out of Malibu Grand Prix, stone cold sober. Slash is one thing. I know Saul. West, Woof!!!

I may be remembering wrong, but I think I have a studio version of this. I got it back in the day before CD was released and everyboyd way crying out for any unreleased GnR stuff. I think it may be older than 1991. It may even be an old LA Guns song which just never got released. I'd have to take some time to find the version I have, but I'd be surprised if I had something you guys don't. If anybody wants in I'll find it.

It is 100% from the 1980's. In high school a friend of mine had a GNR bootleg on vinyl, and this song was on it. So was an early version of November Rain that only had Axl and acoustic guitars. I hung out with that dude in 1988 -1989. I know it was then also because we got Metallica's AJFA record together, which came out in 1988.

I feel like maybe they were trying to say ... If this was done or recorded that far back - pre-AFD, then why the hell would they leave it off of UYI's? And the answer is that Axl didn't want it for GNR. Unfortunately, cause it's unbelievable.
@stephenhood2948 Жыл бұрын
@@AmandaLea-bd9pk It was most certainly recorded pre AFD, it was pre GnR, around the time Hollywood Rose was getting together. It is a really good song, though I don't think it would have fit well on AFD or UYI. Probably a better fit on The Spaghetti Incident, throw an original in the mix. This song is about the Vince Neil crash that killed Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle, so it's safe to assume it is from that timeframe, around 84.
