Idk man, as much as I loved this song and a few others, the 90’s were weird. 😂 I feel like we were all depressed and then it led to this explosion of angry music by the end of the 90’s when bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit came around. I was in junior high when grunge came to an end, and all I remember is just how depressing the music was. Even the shows from the 90’s had a weird vibe to em. Went from cocaine/party fueled 80’s individuals to long haired flannel and ripped jeans wearing depressed individuals to spiked hair jnco’s and air walks wearing pissed off individuals. 😂 Either way, this song is incredible. But I don’t miss the 90’s even a little bit. But it’s all perspective. Not knocking on yours at all. I just don’t have fond memories of the 90’s I guess.

In an interview, these guys talked about how people are serious backstabbers in the industry, and this song is about how they wish the world was different. I've been a Soundgarden fan for many years and decided to write only when Chris Cornell had already passed away and this song is already over thirty. This song, along with other lesser-known songs from the Superunknown album, are the best in terms of composition, theme and it has everything: both tragedy and a craving for that boundless freedom. Peace and goodness to all.

Probably one of the most heavily played ballads of the 90's and yet it NEVER gets old. The entire album may have come out in '94 and yet still feels fresh and relevant which is a testament to not only Chris, but the whole band. Superunknown, for me is the epitome of summer as if I were viewing life through a black mirror. Every song off that album is like its own mini album each telling a different story within the Superunknown. Even though the album may have been named after Super Klown, it is by fate, the perfect title for this masterpiece.

I think Chris struggled with depression for a long time, and he acted like he was fine, but with depression, it never leaves you. and just because you are happy and appear to be doing good on the outside doesn't mean you are not struggling on the inside. I love Soundgarden's music. Chris Cornell had a very unique and powerful voice. I knew about soundgarden growing up, heard them on the radio, but didn't know who Chris Cornell was till after he passed away. now I enjoy listening to them, and also love Chris's solo work and other bands he was a part of. it's sad what happened to him, but his voice is a comfort to me in times of sadness

So fcking what. Everyone struggles with depression. Everyone has wanted to off themselves at one point or another. Even my dog gets depressed when I leave the room. I think you have some more psych classes to pass before you are qualified to go around diagnosing deceased celebrities with mental disabilities. If you are sad, what youve gotta do is believe in yourself instead of crying about it. Then own up to your own life choices and quit acting like a suffering fool. Writing your own music to sort your own emotions will give you far more comfort than wallowing in the sorrow of others.

You've gotta be joking right? It's one of the worst solos I've heard; it's so uncoordinated, there's too much wah, parts of it are out of time and/or out of key, pretty much all the bends are flat, the list goes on. Great song don't get me wrong but the solo sucks balls
@boberson338 жыл бұрын
You must really hate Hendrix songs if you dont like the kind of solo which you described. (wah filled, out of key/time, etc.) It's really not out of key at all, it just may sound that way because he's using 2 different scales/modes and because it's tuned down a 1/4th step from drop D. Most solos aren't in time. Look at Walk by Pantera, Raining Blood, Don't Fear the Reaper, HeartBreaker by Led and of course One by Metallica are all great solos which are very out of place in the song and off time. This solo, like many, was completely improvised. Like Hendrix, Kim often did everything on the spot. I think this solo is fantastic and adds flavor to the song

This one is going to hit me hard, I can tell. 52 is no age at all. Soundgarden's output is some of the finest rock or metal of the '90s; how many of their contemporaries can boast a streak of albums like Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, and Down on the Upside? And Chris' voice was just... peerless. Soundgarden's albums were so important to my musical development, and now a major part of them is just... gone. Like that. Completely without warning. Soundgarden was a huge part of my teen years. I cried so hard when I found out that he died. Even more so by his own hand. Whatever it was that tormented him, I hope that he is finally at peace. Just so glad that I was at an age that I could really appreciate his music and voice. RIP Chris. Give Scott a hug for us.

And to think someone who channeled his pain into such indescribable beauty through the power of his voice would choose to end his own life, and at such a young age. He was crying out sorrow and asking for help, but no one could save him from his demons. You were a voice of my generation, Chris, and I will be forever grateful to have been born to hear your songs when they were new. Rest in power, Chris. And rest in peace. You will never be forgotten and will always be loved.

This song inspired me to get into astrophysics, indirectly. It caused me to go learn more about black holes which spiraled into a passion. Speaking of which, time to put on my Neil deGrasse Tyson hat: If a black hole with a mass similar to our sun replaced our sun, the Earth would be fine. Though I guess that's a relative term... To be more accurate, the black hole wouldn't gobble us all up like in the video. In fact, not much would change with the exception of a perpetual night without a sun. It'd get cold, very cold. We're talking -250F after a month or so. It would take years, if not decades for the oceans to freeze solid (and even that wouldn't be complete as hydrothermal vents keep parts of the ocean warm enough). Humans would still live on though, underneath earth's surface living off geothermal energy. It'd stay warm so long as our core stayed hot too. So why wouldn't the black hole gobble us up? It's not a vacuum cleaner sucking everything into it. It's more like a waterfall; get too close and you'll go over the edge (the edge in this case, is the event horizon) but a waterfall doesn't "suck" things in, neither does a black hole. Everything, including spacetime "falls" into a black hole. edit: fixed spelling

@@zidbits1528 I think "sucking stuff in" is a good way to say it, but that's what gravity is in general, and that is proportional to the mass involved. The sun trying to suck us in is what keeps us orbiting it, and since the black hole would have the same mass as our sun, we'd just continue to orbit the black hole just the same.

Damn....I hope you'll recover in a positive manner...good day to you. This has affected me, more than I thought since I didn't listen to any of their albums but rather several songs in the last year before he passed. Some of these songs grew to be very powerful to me, they connected with me....in how I had been struggling through depression before, and so had my friend, who succumbed to her situation and committed suicide. Damnit....this is....crazy. It's simply wild that...this occurred.

I feel like most people don't realize how insanely sad this song is, to be so fed up with everything fake and warped you wished it would all just get washed away. the meaning that the song carries for me is waiting for things to change. for anything to disrupt the melancholia and suicidality I'm faced with every day of being impoverished and houseless. the mundane yet tragic reality of the world being washed away by a black hole sun, leaving nothing to remain. this song is the call of the void for me, and that might be a strange thing to say, but this song perfectly encompasses every bit of pain that I've felt in my life, and the wish for all the evil and suffering in the world to be destroyed.

"A poet is an unhappy being whose heart it torn by secret sufferings, but whose lips are so strangely formed that when the sighs and the cries escape them, they sound like beautiful music... and then people crowd about the poet and say to him: "Sing for us soon again;" that is as much as to say.
