These comments are a very half-hearted way to sum up a complex situation: Slash felt that in order for his dream of being a musician to stay alive, he had to tolerate and accept the person Axl is as a part of his life. I personally know what that's like, as I had been working 2 years with a producer who lied about connections, lied about doing hard drugs, would make racist jokes and would berate me and make me feel less than human to the point I didn't even want to speak to anyone in any conversational situations anymore. But I patiently tolerated those moments thinking that this was going to lead me to my dream, UNTIL that tipping point where I realized I didn't need that asshole to accomplish my dreams-- he was holding me back. Just like Slash went on to work with Myles Kennedy and compose better songs than anything Axl Rose could ever fathom if he had 30 lifetimes, I realized I had to stand up for what I feel personally is right, and I understand to a tee what Slash went through. The tipping point was literally seeing him do meth, it shattered my definition of the path of reality I had been lead down. I never returned to the studio, found a different producer and I can say proudly I left that situation not just with my integrity, dignity, and innocence, but I left with my head held high. We both did something that we knew could have potentially compromised our dream, but we stood up for what we believed in. P.S. I'm going to begin tracking for the album here in May, it's about my experiences over these past couple years and the best comparison sound-wise is Seether. I wrote the songs in a way that anyone could be in my shoes, and anyone could relate to what I went through. Never settle because things are familiar, or because you feel it's your only option. It IS your only option if you don't take the chance to seek something better.

Aerosmith actually cancel their invitation for GNR to go on tour in Europe because Joe perry was getting heroin from izzy.... Axel was punk and everybody knew, no news there...so I dont get why people get worked up. GnR was exactly that and had the same issues since they met each other. I worked with them in some concerts in Brazil...Axel was regularly polite to the crew and kept giving 300% each night...he prefers to talk on stage instead of addressing fans in any way via media. The manager of Led Zeppelin often carried a cricket bat to enforce his will. This inspired the bat wealding manager character album release scene in "This Spinal Tap. I've repeatedly heard he was so upset when Grand Funk Railroad was opening for was playing and blowing Zeppelin off stage and physically threatened GFR's people and demanded they get GFR off stage. I also heard that when Lynard Skinnard was opening for The Who a similar incident transpired. GFR is not not as well remembered but were an amazingly popular band as the sixties we're settling into seventies, and Skynnard was a legendarily good stage band the and according to sources, The Who's people were genuinely worried about the possibility of Townsend refusing to play at all. Led Zeppelin and The Who are all-time great bands but even great bands can fall victim to stage fright. Of course, the most famous "blown off the stage, "incident" was "when " Guitar God, " Eric Clapton, just just standing there on stage in sheer shock watching Jimi Hendrix, who was new in the UK, walk up plug in a borrowed SG Gibson into Bill Wyman's bass amp and proceeded to shock the crowd and change Rock guitar forever, the London music press and specifically Eric Clapton, who ceremoniously unplugged and left the stage. I've known several friends who were at that performance who told the same story.

GnR was the first band i fell in love with. I was the biggest GnR fan in the world. But as i got older you start realising what an absolute tool Axl was, which made it difficult to love them. I think Oasis had the same problem. As long as they could deliver the music people including me was right there with them. But if the music wasn't good everybody was quick to leave the ship. We love the music but the band was difficult to love so there were no second chances.

I remember, as we were flying into LA to see these shows, many people/newspapers/entertainment-type people, saying that G’nR were going to blow The Stones right out of Los Angeles. I recall that first show very clearly...G’nR played and then The Stones came, out as if to say:, “This is how the big boys play!” They absolutely laid waste to any theories about who was going to blow who out of LA! G’nR (one of the greatest bands of their generation) were thoroughly and completely outclassed, outplayed and out-cooled by the elder statesmen of rock ‘n f**king roll! It was a terrible-beautiful thing to witness!

@ckom00075 жыл бұрын
Joe Badgley Where? When? I love Aerosmith but there’s no real record of them “blowing” the Stones off the stage quite like what the Stones did to G n’ R! The point about the shows in L.A. is you had actual objective evidence that the Stones were absolutely the better band at that moment in time. G n’ R went on to do some really excellent, often unparalleled, work but it could have all crashed and burned after those shows! It would have been a colossal tragedy. If you are comparing Aerosmith to the Stones I’d say that Aerosmith, pound for pound, had more troublesome shows than the Stones. I’ve seen both bands many many times and I can say I’ve never seen the Stones implode to the point where their show was unwatchable...sadly, I can’t say that for every Aerosmith show I’ve been to. In the end I think your argument is; “I like Aerosmith more than the Stones.” Fair enough...there’s no point in arguing. Let’s just thank our personal deities that these bands roamed the Earth and laid-out some excellent work for us to enjoy!
@barbaradufner77795 жыл бұрын
I agree I saw GnR one more time when they released Use You Illusion 1&2 and if someone offered me free tickets to either The Stones or GnR I'd take the Stones they put on a memorable show in the best way not because Mick Jagger is PMSing on stage like a fucking bitch on the rag!

Axl is a hypocrite talking about drug addicts? He was the biggest drug addict in LA at the time.
@Britton_Thompson4 жыл бұрын
No, he wasn't. Axl was not a regular drug user the way everyone else in the band was. The tension and distance that festered within the band was a direct result of Axl feeling like he was the only one who actually wanted a successful musical career whereas everyone else just wanted to rape, pillage, and destroy all the time. The fact that Axl was relatively clean was the reason Geffen Records even signed the band in the first place. They saw that he was functional and everyone else in the band was terrified of him, thus they rolled the dice on signing this gang of street criminals. Axl has psychological issues. That's not an insult either- that's a statement of fact. He's a diagnosed clinical psychopath who suffers from manic depressive bipolar disorder; which often culminated in violence. He's a psychopath, and he'll tell you he's a psychopath. He knows there's something wrong with him that healthy people don't experience. He recognizes he doesn't think and behave the way normal people do. Instead, he's gotten to the same place Mike Tyson has where he's fully aware something is off with him, and it's up to him to manage it. I shudder to think of what a strung out Axl Rose would be like!

One of the only family celebrity encounters I really recall coincidentally was from Axl Rose, it was back before I was even born, and it was while my dad was waiting in line with a few friends for Magic mountain. This documentary makes me realize how unsurprised I am of Axl Rose's attitude considering how the story continues, the guy just basically used his pop clout to get ahead in line of everyone (willingly, of course, but still, absolute manipulation of the fanbase), to this day dad kicks himself that he didn't get in a shouting match with Axl Rose over goddamn Magic Mountain. its just kind of a funny, kind of petty story, but it just adds to the credence of what's going on here.

Back in 78, 79, and 80, we had a band that was pretty tight and had known each other since 2nd and 3rd grades. We had been a band for over 3 years and together we all had a gifted talent of making and writing our own original music, right off the tops of our heads. We had a man who followed us to dive~ass bars watching our gigs and liked our looks, sound, and talents. He took us from these dive~bars to larger and better places to play and more money. We even got a small amount of road experience along the way opening for a few bands who are now big time.. As our new manager was working with a record company, our lead singer and front man let this go to his head. He began doing stupid shit and getting us into trouble over and over. Costing us and our manager big bucks. The ass hole eventually blew it for us by getting loaded and punching our manager in the face giving him a major concussion, broken nose and having to be hospitalized for a week. Our singer accused him of looking at his girl. She was talking to him, why wouldn't he be looking at her? Sooooo stupid!!! Axle Rose reminds me so much of this ass~wipe singer we had. Causing problems where ever he went for the dumbest shit. Always the one to disagree, want the most money, want his own hotel room and dressing room, and other special shit. None of us ever figured who died and made him God. I really liked G~N~Rs music and allot of talent there. As soon as I began learning of ole' Rose's antics, I gave up on them. Bad memories and bad asses, not in a good way either. Shame on you Axle Rose... You are nothing but an infected pimple on the ass of Rock~N~Roll!!!

See there's an old saying that goes there's two sides to every story but when it comes to Guns and Roses the only side anyone ever wanted to hear when it came to Axl doing his stuff was the rest of the band.
