1987. 10 years old. Months before this song dropped on MTV. Before Axl finished the opening growl I knew GNR was my favorite band. That's never changed. And all because my best bud's (RIP man) uncle bought the tape "because the cover looked cool"

You’re off on the amp Slash was using. It was a RENTED, just for the recording sessions, Frank Levi modded Marshall 1959 Super Lead head that apparently came from Studio Instrument Rentals in LA. They tried to buy it later, after they had some money and fame. But, it was GONE! No one could find it! The rental company said it was missing, just gone, or stolen. I forget which ended up being the verdict on the final disposition of it. Either way, it is believed to be literally lost to time, which is just a crime done to humanity! Because when one considers its impact on that album, on Slash’s tone and reputation, and how that success caused “glam” or “hair” bands to start fading out to be replaced with “sleeve”, what that amp was and did cannot be understated in my opinion. It actually put other things in motion as well. Some include Slash, and his people, searching all over for that head, one like it, anyone that knew how it was modded, or just to find anything else that could replicate the tone with or without mods. Later, its popularity and the legend that grew from it also caused Marshall to do extensive work with Slash to develop his signature Marshall head. It was basically a factory built boutique modded amp, but built in “mass” on an assembly line. If, and that’s a BIG IF, someone could find it today, and prove it was that head, and if still working, and if the original mods were still in place, and with documentation proving that it was it ( like serial numbers that are legit, that match the paperwork the rental place had, and that people that know what the Levi mods looked like could verify they were legit and all of the time period…I dare say it would still sell at auction at one of the highest prices ever paid for an amp, if not the highest.

Well done dude’s, this song is a gem. It’s a pleasure to hear guitars separately, bass, drums, and Axl’s voices. About amps on Appetite, Slash used to play on a modified Plexi Marshall and Izzy on a Mesa Boogie Mark 3. The Jubilee wasn’t avalaible early 1987. Slash also did some good lines with a 6 strings Bass Fender on this tune. You missed it sadly but anyway, I like this video so much, so thanx thanx thanx. And I wish You will that happen with another GNR song. 🙏😊🤘

@@RonnieDee2323 Hello! we can hear this Fender 6-string bass at several times on Welcome to the Jungle: the first on the bridge where the tune calm down a bit, between 2:19 and 2:32, Slash plays the chords of D and G. the second when he doubles and triples the chromatic riff (minor third and major third I guess), behind the slide’s part, from 3:35 to 3:46. and finally he did a few D chords on the chorus.

This is fascinating to me, someone with zero guitar knowledge. It popped up in my feed and i clicked on it cuz due to my limited guitar knowledge, i can never hear Izzy if that makes sense cuz i dont know what to listen for. I really wanted to know who played that build up b4 Axl says do you know where you are? Thanks for the knowledge 😊

Do you realize they need the unmixed master tracks to isolate channels with ProTools? You can't do that unless you have the master tracks. Since most live music is not recorded on to multi-track masters, there isn't much chance of that happening.

IZZY used a Fender Bassman 60s Blackface head with Mesa Boogie 4×12 cabinet with EV speakers in the bottom and Celestions on top. He used several gits and thus no one is sure exactly which ones. He made it a point not to use Marshall amps because he wanted the guitars to sound completely different. As it is he was unhappy because he thought the two gits sounded too similar. No idea if he used any pedals or what was done to his signals in post production.

OK, so a lot of these single line guitar vibratos sound like they slowed the tape down during recording, then sped it up for playback, they sound to me like coked up nervous ninnies, I'm sure no blow was involved. The stacked rhythm guitars: definitely good but remember your first 4 track recorder and seeing how many times you could bounce doubled guitars? Pretty messy and I just listened to the MC5 as reference. Please keep up the (Willy Ronnie Lemonjello) (Tom)foolery, some people think these musicians are above reproach but Slash would love the fun and frolic. What's in the purple cups?
