My dad told him I was a huge fan of mail call and asked if he would take a pic with me. He smiled, said sure, and stood next to me. I was struck by how small he was, but right before my dad snapped the shot he turned and grabbed me around my neck with both hands. I was frozen not knowing what to do, somewhere my dad has a pic of me being gently throttled by one of my childhood heros. Miss that old guy, Semper Fi Gunny o7

Oooooooh boy. Lock n Load with good ole R. Lee Ermey. I was a huge nerd for his older Mail Call show. My story about Gunny is that he filmed one of the Lock and Load episodes at a range my folks used to go to. It was for the sniper rifles episode. If you remember the scene where he shoots the 55 gallon drums with the .50 cal, then that's the range. Spent most of the day out there. He talked with my parents while the show breaked for lunch. I was standing with all the other tag-alongs at the range tower when he shot the exploding barrels. They were about 100 yards off, but I could still feel the heat from the fireball wash over us! Let me tell ya, for a little tyke going gaga over all things military, that made my entire summer! I do remember that after the filming was over, Gunny stayed up in the tower and all us little fan boys and girls got him to sign the .50 cal brass. The old timer ripped off at least two dozen of them during the humid Nebraska summer, but he still had the patience for all of us! When it came my turn to get the signed brass I could barely talk with the man, I was so nervous! Still one of my best memories of my childhood, I got to meet one of my heroes and he definitely lived up to it!

Joe from "Sons of Guns" bought a firearm from my store awhile back. I did the final check and recognized the address, so I couldn't help but mention the show and what happened to Will Hayden. I'd seen some of the show but never really paid much attention, so I was unaware that he'd had a prominent role in Red Jacket, before buying out the company and changing its name after the fallout. When that show was filming, I really wanted to like it. My neighbor told me about it, and I was an Army Recruiter working out of a mall a mile or so away from the business. I looked up the address and drove by one day but couldn't find anything. No signage, no indication that Red Jacket existed. Month later, I drove back by, and they were obviously filming, with full signage, that dumb looking truck, and a parking lot full of cars and production vehicles. Something about the show just seemed off. First, you had Will Hayden, the now-convicted chomo serving the rest of his life at Angola. It seemed like every episode he'd bring up his time in the Marines, and the "first of its kind" build they were doing for the episode. The M1919 was laughable, as it was the "first time" an M1919 was built as a shoulder-fired weapon (never mind the WWII-era M1919A6). I'm a gun guy who spent 21 years as an Army Infantryman, and I'll be the first to tell you that military or police service do not equate to weapons knowledge. There are 18Bs (Special Forces Weapons Sergeants) that no less about the history and function of small arms than the average GunTuber. Then you had all the fake drama, pointless deadlines, and such. I recall one episode where a "customer" walked in off the street and was berated for daring to think they did over-the-counter sales. To his credit, Joe, who now runs Aklys Defense in the same building where Red Jacket operated, seems pretty cool. They design and manufacture their own silencers, among other products, and he told us to stop by anytime to check out the facility.

My mom had it on DVD and I thought sledge hammer was MC hammer. Made for a very confusing middle school because nobody knew what I was referencing and I had no idea that the main actor was a singer. Absolutely top notch show.

Hey, that’s really cool man! My first was a Kar98k made in 1944 in Oberndorf, Germany. It was used on the eastern front where it was captured by the Soviets, and eventually imported by CAI. I still have that rifle. Never going to get rid of it
@c20993 ай бұрын
@@ashe1.070 Same with me, I'll sell everything else I have before my K98. I have no clue where it was used, aside from Europe lol. The stock was pretty beat up when I got it though.
@ashe1.0703 ай бұрын
@@c2099 Its kind of difficult to find any info on a rifle unless you have some paperwork that came with it unfortunately. I only know what I know about mine because of the factory code (byf), and Russian capture mark (an "X") stamped on the action. The stock on mine isn't in the greatest of shape either, but the action, bolt, barrel, etc. are all in decent shape. So, that's all that matters for a historical artifact in my opinion. I think of the minor damage to the stock as being indicative of its history though, so it's not something I'd ever change personally. But, I guess it depends on how bad the damage is.
