Hatred is a poison that destroys us from within, producing bitterness that eats away at our hearts and minds. This is why the Scriptures tell us not to let a “root of bitterness” spring up in our hearts (Hebrews 12:15).

@@Phase1of2 A lot of these eps have downer endings. Justice doesn't always prevail in Dodge City. That's why the show couldn't get sponsored.

Seemed to be a definite subtext in this one. The father was afraid of his son hanging out with another man, especially one who liked " poetry".
