This is a remake of the first season episode (#25) with the same title. Jeanette Nolan was the voice of the new lady saloon owner, and her voice as this character sounded a lot like Margorie Maine, a former MGM character actress who went on to greater fame as "Ma Kettle" in the popular Ma and Pa Kettle series of film comedies from Universal Studios. Miss Nolan's "lady saloon proprietor" came out as a very likeable character, but there was most definitely a different actress playing the same character in THIS (remade) episode whose voice was grating and sounded like a bad female version cross between Jimmy Durante and Louis Armstrong. The lady in this remake might have been the prolific radio actress Virginia Gregg who usually played dramatic and "sexy femme fatale" roles in radio dramas. Another difference between the newer remake and the original is that in the original, the lady saloon boss was the new owner of The Longbranch, which in later episodes became where Kitty worked and later took over as owner (in the first one third to half of the radio episodes, Kitty normally worked at The Texas Star.) So they changed the name of the saloon of the new woman proprieter in this remade episode.

(PS) and Jeanette Nolan was one of the very few players who worked in both radio and television versions of Gunsmoke; Miss Nolan is probably best remembered in the TV Gunsmoke as "Dirty Sally" and the short-lived, same name / titled spin-off series. But of course she was also a very prolific film and television actress, married to John McIntire and mother of popular character actor Tim McIntire.

Who played the part of Mamie? The acting credits are edited out from their usual place at the end of the program, except for the continuing cast.

It drives me crazy when Matt could have clearly stopped both killings! He tells Morley not to go into the back room, then he just stands there while the guy walks over to the door, opens it, and watches him shoot his brother! Then, instead of grabbing him right after he shoots his brother, he stands there and tells him he’s under arrest! There’s a lot of situations like this!
