Another terrific episode highlighting the value of swift justice. I love it when Mister Dillon arrests Blane (24:36) and warns him that if he makes one move, he'll cut him in half with his shotgun. What would today's weak-kneed police administrators think of law enforcement using such language???? 😂😂😂😂😂

Another fine episode (52) from John Meston under the direction of Norman Macdonnell and all the voice actors. Orlo and Gorse received the strict wild west justice of the 1870's. Their honesty from their military exoerience during the Civil War was a fascinating and refreshing part of this episode. Matt again acted on his hunch from many years of experience with the criminal ways of thinking and devious gambits to put away Blain and side kicks.

It's conflicting. They're two simple men who are honest, yet they know what they did and agreed that they must be punished. I agree to on principle that criminal action, which remember they were robbing someone who was simply defending his business, plus if murder was/is involved, must be punished in accordance to how severe it was. It's more or less a shame that these men did kill someone, because they're overall seemingly adequate, but like it's been established, regardless of what caused them to be in such a state, they did kill someone, sure from their perspective self defense, however, self defense also is given to the shop owner defending his business. A shame they went and committed 2 crimes, attempted robbery and murder, but what's done is done.

It's " they hanged". Or " were hanged.". Saying " they were hung" is a frequent error on these shows

It’s episodes like this one that shows the lie promoted by some in Television today that story writing in the past was simplistic and template, lacking depth. 😮

It’s not that it’s a rare sight it’s that the shotgun in that time was very devastating being the advances in medicine Weren’t great being shot in that time you most likely died of lead poisoning or infections or on the spot

Today they would be put in an institution. Hanging them was wrong. Mmmlore and more I see the Dillon character as pompous, self righteous and wrongfully judgemental.

@MrDalewin3 жыл бұрын
@@howardoller443 I think Matt said it himself. He doesn’t make the laws. He enforces them. He had no control over what happens to them, as he said in this episode, unless they tried to shoot at him. There are plenty of episodes when he himself questions the law when he knows that it can also be used to hurt innocent people. That said, he can be rather pompous, like in the episode before this one. But that’s the beauty of his character. He isn’t perfect. He is actually quite flawed and even admits that he sometimes lets his pride override his good sense.

James Arness was definitely a more humble and meek Matt Dillon but just as efficient and strong as Conrad's character. I like them both the same despite their slight differences.

@@MrDalewin Look as much as the men come off as "decent" they in the end committed a crime. How we feel is one thing, what must be done for those innocent people who ended up being victims of criminals matters more. It's a shame that the men did do the 2 crimes (attempted robbery and murder) but even they can't deny what they did was wrong both legally and morally. They're aware of their actions, they feel regret, however their own words make it clear that they'd do such a thing again. And as for murder, on principle alone yes that in turn must be met with a death sentence. In America we've been treating criminals as though they're all broken, as though there's such a thing as a "correct" human being, and that criminals themselves can be opened up and rewired like a machine. And despite these attempts, they only prove to be ineffective. Even seemingly decent ones have still gone to commit criminal actions when let free. We've grown too soft and deluded in the west about the nature of man. That he's been broken for centuries and through medicine and psychological manipulation, man can be "fixed". We have millions of prisoners who are no good to society, and we leave them to rot in jail, wasting millions to feed and clothe them, and right now, we have officials who've let so many prisoners go during 2020-2021, which only caused crime to increase. Such a mentality is why countries like ours are in such a state. Too soft and deluded about what must be or what has to be done, and too idealistic. Either we choose to defend and protect innocents, which means choosing them over criminals, or we let them loose cause we delusionally value their lives even though many don't deserve such sentiments over them. And if we delusionally value the lives of criminals, then well such a society doesn't deserve to exist, it's doomed to go down a slow and painful road towards its own death. And it has happened before, similarly, previous societies have gone down such a route, which is why they don't exist anymore. When people get soft, when they're so secure and overconfident about medical treatments etc, it just escalates to a decline.
