Bette Davis played the deranged older woman so well in her older years. Such a great actress.

The actors and actresses that show up in these Gunsmoke episodes over the years could fill a list a mile long! Just this one episode, in addition to the great Bette Davis, we see Tom Skeritt and Bruce Dern. Harrison Ford appeared in two episodes, Richard Dreyfuss, Eileen Heckhart, Richard Basehart, Morgan Woodward in tons of episodes, Cloris Leachman, Dack Rambo, the list goes on and on. Great show.

Matt had no excuse not to date Kitty. She was in danger due to him being Marshall no matter what. James Arness said himself that the reason they never hooked up Matt and Kitty, was because the creators felt that it would change up the status quo too much. It's very important to change up the status quo at times and Matt/Kittys romance being teased but never built on was really frustrating. If this show gets rebooted, the Matt/Kitty romance needs to be established, since it's too good to be wasted.

This is why Bette Davis was a better actress than Katherine Hepburn. Bette could play just about any role, from a gun toting Western gal to an English queen to a crazy lady and so on. Katherine only played royal, noble or patrician characters, well, she was born into high society, so for her, those types of roles were not really much of a quantum leap. Not taking anything away from her, but Bette had much more versatility.
