For 12 years this plays under my pillow nightly. I see another commenter does the same. Glad to know I’m not the only one lol.

i play this every night on my wifi radio as i go to sleep..just enamored with the acting and visualization i garner in my mind..that is acting in its own right..Conrad was superb and so versatile..and believable..as the rest of the actors were.shame this generation has no idea of what radio shows were like..

OMG Where is the rest of this? This is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

This would be, of course, episode 1, originally titled "Gunsmoke No. 1," which we have later called "Billy the Kid."

I only wish William Conrad (the original Marshall Dillon) and Georgia Ellis (the original Miss Kitty) could have been there. Howard McNear (the original Doc Adams) had passed away many years earlier as he had become ill when doing "The Andy Griffith Show".

@@martyneff4008 I think she had been married to Antony Ellis, who wrote many radio shows including "A Christmas Story". She was very good in an early episode of the radio version simply called "Kitty". William Conrad does a good deal of narration during that episode. John Weston worked very hard to develop and create the characters of "Gunsmoke" and this episode very well set forth the characters and relationship of both Miss Kitty and William Conrad. I think that episode (Kitty) was aired in November of 1952, so it was one of the very early "Gunsmoke" radio shows as the series began in April of 1952.

She was married to Anthony Ellis and they divorced in late 59 or early 1960 and in some of the credits she goes by her maiden name Hawkins. She married a man whose last name was Puttfarkin I believe this was right around the time when Gunsmoke ended in June 1961 she was married to this man until she passed in 1988 Very nice talking with knowledgeable fans like you 😃😃😃😃

@@martyneff4008 Thanks for the information, as there isn't much written about her life or I haven't been able to find it.

William Conrad gave Chester his name and also named Doc Adams. Chester was originally just called the "townsman". Parley Baer gave Chester his middle and last name of Wesley Proudfoot. Chester's last name was changed to Goode for the television series because CBC thought Parley Baer would sue them for using a name he had created. John Meston, the main writer and creator for both the radio and television versions of Gunsmoke took it from there and the rest is history.
