My favorite Toadies story is that Lisa, the bassist, was an Ewok extra in Return of the Jedi. She took her $800 payment and bought her first bass with it.

The more I listen to Rubberneck over the years, the more I appreciate the guitar tone on it. That intro to “Away” still raises the hairs on the back of my neck. So many brawny roaring growls outta those licks and leads on that album. Whether it’s Darrell’s playing, his gear, Sally, Tom, Howie or Andy Wallace the Maestro - or all of them combined - it’s pure rocket fuel. Just love it.

A P90 equiped guitar and a pushed Marshall valve amplifier is an incredible tone. It snarls, it jangles, it crunches, yet is still articulate enough for subtle attack variations, palm mutes, and hammer on/pull off rhythms.

Rubberneck is one of my favorite albums of all time. There's not a bad song on it. I was fortunate to see them play a headlining gig in 1995 on the Rubberneck Tour in Columbus, Ohio @ Newport Music.Hall. They were so good. With all the great songs on it I was always surprised that Possum Kingdom was the only hit. Songs like Tyler and Backslider and I Burn are all much better than that one. I think every song on it is excellent. Away, I Come From The Water, Mister Love, etc... I can listen to it from first song to last and sing every word. That's rare in an album. As far as their albums after that, they never had one that touched Rubberneck, but they definitely had some other great songs. Dollskin was a great song and could have been a hit.

@@stubkar I would have loved that, but I can see Zombie fans not being into it. Seems like bad management. They shouldn't have been touring with bands like that, although I would have loved it. Mine was a headlining show. They played the whole Rubberneck album in it's entirety, in order. It was epic. The band that opened was called New Bomb Turks. I think they were a Columbus band though. Something great about a headlining show. Everyone was there to see Toadies and the crowd sang every word to every song.

Funny, in my own experience of them, I thought "Possum Kingdom" was an Everclear song for a year or two before ever hearing the name Toadies and finding out my mistake, lol but true, and then I sort of felt they were just another 1 hit pop rock band in a well established genre, and that Weezer is the same kind of stuff but way better....I have a greater appreciation for them now that they get some play on classic rock stations and remind me of simpler times.

Play.Rock.Music is the most underrated Toadies album of all time! I’ve seen the Toadies many times since Rubberneck and their live show is always fantastic. They are performing this fall with Reverend Horton Heat and I’ll definitely be there.

Agreed. Been listening to a lot of Toadies lately and this is definitely my current favourite. Best songs are The Appeal and We Burned This City Down.

I saw them twice in the 90s. First in a club as an opening act for a band I can’t remember. My friends were Toadies fans and dragged me out, we were the only ones in front of the stage giving them love during their set. Then again with RHCP on the “One Hot Minute” tour.

Yep:)) I watched a video about rubberneck. Tyler was based on a real life peeping Tom. It never went farther than that tho. The lead singer thought about what the peeping Tom would do if he broke into a girls home. That’s how Tyler was created.

Nice.. Abruptly ended but its spot on true.. I toured with these guys off an on through out almost a 20 yrs span.. Well and the burdenbros... Good flashback of memories... It was a good good life here in the Texas Rock N Roll Circut! None of the bands ever really gave a shit that much about what was outside of Texas as it was always big enuff its self for everyone.... Peace love and rock n roll

Loved the video as a lifelong toadies fan also sid just so you know i just sent this over to vaden to see, few small points id like to make 1. the toadies are and have always claimed themselves as a fort worth band. 2. when Lisa announced she was quitting she did it through the dallas observer and vaden actually found out the same way we all did by reading that article lol. 3. the lower side of uptown should have gotten more love as most of those songs were written in the early days and it is a solid return to form record for the group. either way thanks sid great vid
