Of all the great 1990s albums, even though it was critically acclaimed by the underground and by Rolling Stone Magazine and all that, it's too bad that the trendy bendy's following the grunge movement didn't stick along with another great album like they did with maybe Pearl Jam or and Alice In Chains year or two later. I can personally relate to that part of Mark's life. I was heavily addicted to drugs and alcohol. Lots of my really close friends were overdosing and dying in drunken car accidents while I rarely even overdosed. I'm a really big guy at 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing anywhere from 240 to 317 pounds depending on the year. That certainly helps with not overdosing but definitely doesn't make one invincible. The last time I saw them there was a lengthy delay die to a broken bass string. 3 opening acts and not a spare bass to be found while their roadie fount and installed ONE STRING. That show ended with Van coming on stage alone,looking offstage and asking "guys, are we gonna do one more?" multiple times before walking off. If you have not heard the album Mad Season you should look it up. It's incredible. Layne Staley on vocals, Barrett Martin on drums, and Mike McCready on guitar.

Eh, the movie wasn't THAT bad. Kind of dragged at times, but I liked it overall.

How dare you sir, the acting in that movie was great. I really believed that the actors who played Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Xavier McDaniel were those people.

I have to say, Screaming Trees were one of my favorite bands of all time. Also, Mark was one of my favorite singers of all time. Seeing them at Lollapalooza was such a great experience. They should have been as big as Pearl Jam, or Alice in Chains. I was so sad to hear of Mark’s passing. I always hoped Screaming Trees would get back together.

Saw the Trees a couple of times, once at Lollapalooza in San Jose and the other time in San Francisco, both supporting Dust. The second time, they came on and played about 5 songs, they were great but then Lanegan just walked off and the rest of the band continued, but kinda sucked after that and we just left. Loved Uncle Anastasia, Sweet Oblivion, and Dust though....

@edwardobryan96483 жыл бұрын
I did Screaming trees advertising for all their SST releases. I believe part of Mark Lanigans vocal uncertainty early on stemmed from the fact he had not finished growing up till about their second release for the label. I happen to recall talking with either Van or possibly Steve Fisk that the name came from the sound of the wind howling through the pine trees in the Ellensburg area.

One of my top 5 bands, and I have a huge list. They had a lot of musical sophistication, a one of a kind lead singer, and great songwriting and arranging. They should at least have the legacy and recognition Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc, have, if not more (plus Trees were just...cooler). RIP Mark Lanegan, thanks for the extra shiny memories.

They were a good band, did some good work, and together with Lanegan's solo stuff and his other bands and collaborations certainly make for a decent playlist. But let's not kid ourselves here; they were no where near Nirvana or PJ level. No where near.
