Honestly this. Before I had more unities - as a f2p - I would try hard so much just to get that last star, and it was never worth having to reset 20/30 times. It's not even 1 pull worth it in the end.

Something i believe is worth mentioning: Mihoyo just officially announced that they will find a way to bring old units back to the meta this way or another, so your favorite characters from 1.X may be better in the future Im not implying that you shouldnt invest for newer characters, but you may be pleased to know your pulls for old units may not go to waste after a long time

I like how Robin and Sunday- two hyped-up characters due to their overall involvment/story arc in Penacony- are also considered, as of this patch, the best Harmony units for Dual/Single DPS compositions respectively. And they even synergise well with each other. Do not separate the siblings :D

My start was saved since the moment Acheron was known, got her E2S1,get jiaqui e0s1 proceed to full clear everything until now witouth any issues because she gets max rewards super fast (low cycles, 40k, pf ,etc) and the other team can be trahs that you still clear anyways on all of 2.X i have only pull for Robin and sparkle outside of the other 2 i mention, clear everything witouth a single issue investing in a good unit and their teanmates gets you the clears, is that simple , tho you have to be willing to save for months if you f2p or low spender

⁠​⁠@@dachosens1 even long term it’s questionable. Let’s say you don’t touch final stages of endgame modes at all and one day decided to pull for a character from meta perspective just to clear them. Assuming you hit pity and win 50-50 (so 14400 jades for 90 pulls), you’ll need a bit more than 2 years of clearing said final stages with three stars to get what you just spent on pulling for ‘meta’ back.

Prioritizing supports was the best choice I made. I also focused on two archetypes (Hypercarry and break) and heavily invested in them. I now have an account where I can clear everything with Qingque/Firefly/Argenti. Sure I don't 0 cycle or get really fast clears, but I still clear everything comfortably.

One thing to note is that if a player doesn't care about maxing out the rewards for the challenge content and is fine with getting 80-90% of them, power creep is WILDLY overstated by the fanbase and you'll be able to clear the overwhelming majority of content and rewards while only sacrificing ~2-6 rolls per cycle. Unless you care about the achievement of getting everything, it's absolutely not worth caring about. Simply properly building a team is enough to get you through almost all content no problem.

Remember to Pull for synergy and fun over Meta! (and don't be scared to Double dip into your favourites!) I've skipped Robin and Sunday and even f2p, have an S1 Acheron/S1JQ that clears content. The Herta comes out and I played her with JQ until I build RMC, and Lingsha was a massive skip when she came out, but now she's Universal! Don't worry about "Tribbie is a Skip", "Mydei is a Skip" or whatever. If you have the units for the teams that are good, No character is a bad investment!

It's necessary to add that pulling on the current light cone banner is pretty important if you don't have DDD at high superimposition already. We only saw DDD once in all of 2.x and I can see that happening again with the light cone pull being diluted by an entire new path.

I started a free-to-play account for fun, aside from my game knowledge. With the selector now, you can start the journey with Himeko, Herta, and Tingyun and March 7th until the healer. Then power through until you pull better units and progress further in the game. The beginning steps are much more smooth than when I started. The simulated universe is such a big help that you can get in pretty quickly and start earning helpful items.

Some other things to consider here are, expecting new players (hell even some veterans) to "READ" something. It's complain first FOR SOME OF THEM, get "educated"/"schooled"/"shat on" by the community (either positively or negatively) then read the rules of the game itself after getting "educated"... Just because you got the current 5 star character it will not do bonkers amount of damage automatically... AND Auto-battling is only reserved for farming and having a decent enough team to do those farming materials (in my opinion). I see an amount of "streamers" who got there Hoyo sponsorship who will always leave auto-battling ON in important story boss fights or just boss fights while also being under invested on leveling up the characters, and they'll say this "boss is so hard" P.S. THIS IS A "STRATEGY GAME" and not an auto-battler

And I'm just trying to progress in the game and I just can't beat Nikador in the second phase, it's insane the amount of time you need to put in one character just to play this game.

Personally I will always prioritize more general supports. I love Acheron, but I'd always pull for a Sparkle or a Sunday over a Jiaoqiu. Pulling more generalized supports makes it so much easier to be able to pull for the carries you like later on and not have to worry about being THAT much behind in DPS to hit those turn thresholds in MoC or score thresholds in PF or AS.

Then you probably have a high vertical investment team. Most player like to spend their jade more horizontal and vertical on some character, not always be able to form a best premium team. E0S0 Dan Heng shouldn't struggle against those bugs because those enemies were released in 1.3 but now he doesn't have enough damage to clear it in most account. In Honkai: Star Rail, the harsh truth is: "Just get lucky," This is very true. Even my Archeron feels bad to play now because I don't have Jiaoqiu and Adventurine. It's not that I didn’t know they were good or that I chose not to roll for them-it's because I literally lost 50/50s twice on Adventurine's banner and once on Jiaoqiu's banner each cost 80 pulls + lol

I came back to the game after not playing since 2.4 and immediately got both Aglaea and Boothills LC in a single 10 pull each. I find it very strange that Aglaea is completely useable without Sunday or her E1 and has no good f2p teams that make her function in the slightest. Oh well I guess she stays benched forever then, what a shame

But... why would you ever pull a character without first checking what their primary playstyle is or who their teammates are? It's pretty clear even superficially that Aglaea's whole kit revolves around energy. There are only three characters which give energy. 1.0 4-star Ting Yun, Sunday, and HuoHuo. Like, if you don't have ANY of the five star characters which specialise in energy, why would you ever pull for the unit with the highest energy cost in the game and revolves around energy? Character banners only change every 3 weeks. It takes a lot of time to save up. There really isn't any excuse not to find out how a unit works before you pull them, since pulling them is a big time investment. And if you are someone who just pulls whoever they like visually, then you shouldn't also complain when said character doesn't match with who you pulled previously. 1.x was the time of individual character pulling. 2.x was the time of general team archetype pulling. 3.x is the time of even more specialised team archetypes. Despite all this, you CAN still use her on your account, you just will struggle with high-end endgame, which is only a small fraction of content. A very FTP team without Sunday or HuoHuo would be; Aglaea + Gallagher (with Quid Pro Quo) + Ting Yun (with DanceDanceDance) + Bronya. Will you have long periods of downtime? yes. But unless you are in the upper-level endgame modes, that isn't going to matter much, and gallagher will sustain just fine.

Limited Characters I own (unless specified are E0S0): Sparkle Topaz Aventurine E0S1 Huohuo Boothill E0S1 Sunday E0S1 The Herta E2S0 (+Ratio, he’s not built but I’m willing to) I have all 4 stars, from standard 5 stars the only one I’ve built is Clara E1, I don’t have Bronya or Himeko 4 stars I’ve built: Qingque, Serval, Herta, Pela, Asta, hunt March, hmc I’m planning to pull Ruan Mei + hopefully Fugue but currently Boothill is really difficult to use (building up trickshots takes forever). Would running him with pela + hmc + sustain be viable? Ideally I’d run The Herta/ Herta/ Sunday/ Huohuo side 2, but my best (really bad) run came from side 1 The Herta/ Serval/ Sunday/ Huohuo, side 2 Qingque/Herta/ Sparkle/ Aventurine… Please share team comp ideas / tips 🙏

Lots of different archetypes you've pulled so it's hard to form coherent teams. But yeah Herta/Sub DPS/Sunday/HH can work, could pull Robin eventually. Then invest into BH w/ break supps or Feixiao w/ Topaz Aventurine already pulled (naturally Robin pull is good here too). For your QQ team I'd run a 2nd support, not herta

Robin is fantastic, and highly recommended to pull for. I have her at E0, and she has been a staple in many of my teams even without her lightcone (though I did recently get that as well). And despite being amazing with follow-up attackers, most of her buffs are actually generic or for crit-based teams (she cares more about frequency of attacks, rather than specifically follow-up attacks).

Probably not. Aglaea's performance suffers pretty heavily without Sunday, and there are more carries a patch or two out that are likely to have less restrictive teambuilding options

Honkai Support Rail. It's been demonstrated that juiced supports can drag a mid 5 star, or a E6 4 star across the finish line. PS. E0S1 Acheron is much more comfortable. I would put her LC up there with Sunday's and the Topaz LC is quite nice too.

You can't justify making new characters if you don't make them stronger than the old ones because you're just not going to sell anything past a point. Why pull for Acheron and Aglaea if they have the same power level as Jing Yuan at the end of the day? You run out of mechanics and elements to put into new characters eventually so people won't be inclined to pull any longer. If all characters were at the same power level then you can just save your jades until you get two teams of E6 characters and you're done, you won the game! That is not their goal, the goal is to make you want to pull for new characters ad infinitum so they CAN'T just not make new characters stronger. Powercreep is an integral part of how these games work.

Gacha game is running by their 'power creep' mechanic. not gonna deffend it but yea that shit so ass. There is few game that keep the balance at borderline till the player at least learn the mechanic of their game. Even the HSR dev their self admit that they 1.0 Character barelly keepup the game except you invest to your every support to have either their E1 S1. My Friend even who get lucky to able get Feixiao Pemium team with Fei at S1 drop the game because how obsolete the Relic and End game power creep is. even the blessing didnt help sometimes, For Older Player like me who didnt Pull Robin or sunday (My best team was Acheron JQ, and Firefly Super Break with Additional Fugue for AoE Case) feel the difficulty of the end game and HP inflation.
