Sahil Sinha (Bobby Deol) is in love with Isha (Kajol) and wants to marry her. However, his tyrannical father, Jaisingh (Raj Babbar), insists that he marry Sheetal (Manisha Koirala), the girl he has hand-picked. After a bad argument erupts between them, Jaisingh turns up dead. Sahil, who is viewed as the prime suspect, is arrested and put on trial for murder and ends up receiving a life sentence in jail. Never ceasing to proclaim his innocence, Sahil manages to escape from prison and goes looking for the real killer. The real killer, however, has been with him the whole time.
This Hindi suspense-thriller film was the fifth-highest-grossing Indian film of that year and was praised for its storyline, suspense, performances, soundtrack, and direction. It earned three Filmfare Awards and was declared a Super Hit.

It was sampled. Grow a brain maybe. Every sound has a source. What did you prefer to listen as the soundtrack for Gupt - Classic tabla, sitar & harmonium ? That’s Indian sounds & there’s plenty of sounds like that to listen to. Today you have internet to say copied copied, but you would shat bricks when you would have listened to this back in 1997. These are western sounds, do you expect an Indian musician to make original western music in a Hindi film?? Of course they have been sampled so that the Indian public who was used to listening to Indian sounds,gets a fresh sound. Keep ranting copied copied, Viju Shah is a legend.

The Music and BGM was way ahead of it's time and Lord Bobby's performance was lit. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Remember watching this movie in 1997 in Baharaich with whole family ❤❤❤ The climax literally shocked everyone in theaters.

A Rajiv Rai masterpiece !! The best shock value from a suspense thriller in Bollywood. Great music, crisp screenplay & the slick pace of the movie is unmatched. This was Rai at the peak of his game - remember he is the force behind story, screenplay, editing & direction, but also worked very closely on soundtrack of his films with Viju Shah !! Who knew 20 years later, Bollywood will be known for dishing out crap movies & shitty music.

Remember seeing the original trailer on cassette as an advert in between another movie, this movie really captivated me, n oh boy i was not wrong. One of my favorite movies of all time, music, direction, background score, acting, story. A true suspense masterpiece.

Damn, it is already 26 years since this blockbuster released. One of my all time favourites. I wish they re-release this film soon. I want to enjoy these masala potboilers from my generation (90s kid) reliving the same era. Mohra, Gupt, Kaante and Dark Knight I wish they re-release. Watched Gupt and Kaante in theatre yet watching them again after more than 2 decades would be nice. About Mohra, father didn't take us to the theatre (Nigar in Ambala) becuase he did not like the words 'Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast' and found them vulgar (those days huh!) and there were few incidents of eve teasing using this song outside the theatre leading to a scuffle. Missed out watching Dark Knight due to some commitments. Saala Dark Knight Rises mein bhi it would have been my first ever FDFS experience lekin saala show hi cancel ho gaya and then I got too held up to watch the film later in theatre. Though watched both Dark Knight films later on various platforms but dying to watch Heath Ledger's legendary act on the big screen, although my more favourite actor is Tom Hardy, the Bane from the sequence.
