I remember seeing Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure on display as a playable demo at a Blockbuster back in the 90s. At the time, I was a kid who had never played the 1982 original. All I remember from playing The Mayan Adventure was how amazing the graphics looked. It felt like playing an interactive cartoon, like Earthworm Jim or the Sega Genesis version of Aladdin. I found out about the Sega CD port of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure many years later. While the graphics are practically the same as the Genesis version, the Sega CD version adds an opening cinematic cutscene. The soundtrack is also greatly enhanced and improved by implementing Red Book audio and crisp stereophonic sound.

rented game for SNES and beat it over a weekend in my youth. I remember how nice and fluid it looked. The challenge, while difficult at times, wasn't unfair and after a few tries, I was able to make it past some of the more difficult sections. I do recall the vine swings taking some getting used to, but once you got used to it, it wasnt bad.

someone else already did. EllyStranger. i cant be sure, but i feel like Mr. Guptill doesnt want that video as a part of his legacy, even if some of us genuinely appreciate it. plus it makes it feel more like an inside joke among friends if its harder to find and only vaguely mentioned. and while my top 10 would look a bit different (Shade #1), i respect his preferences.

The backgrounds are NOT brightly colored on GBA. Don't play on an emulator. Properly made GBA games will always look washed out on an emulator because they are tuned to the screen's ability to display color, which is darker than usual. Play any older GBC game on a GBC and then on a GBA and you'll see.
@youseenednedisdead4 ай бұрын
thats actually pretty interesting
@ruekurei884 ай бұрын
Yeah, was gonna write this. The GBA screen is not great and doesn't have a backlight. Devs accounted for this and later games in the GBA's lifecycle are more brightly coloured to counter that. People playing on emulators now just end up with really candy coloured visuals for some games playing on emus.

I have literally never heard someone speak fondly of this game. Awful hitboxes, annoying sound effects. This game has always felt like a worse version of Aladdin. Not to mention the Jaguar bosses who are totally anti-fun and you have to fight them over and over and over again. Btw when you hit enemies there is no impact at all, so there is practically no indication that you did damage. I HATE when games do this.
