I appreciate that! You are too kind. Sometimes I am not sure if I am just rambling on about nothing. But comments like this make me realise I have something valuable to say. Thanks again.🙏

Something that is perhaps being over looked, is the question of where the Earth actually is in relation to a planetary conjunction? Its a common error to view a conjunction, say between Mars and Jupiter, from ones standing on the Earth, as if the Earth were the center of the solar system, but that is a myopic point of view, as the tensions created by such a conjunction do not emanate or radiate or manifest along a singular line of sight. (It must also be remembered and considered, that the planets are only visible to us because of reflected sunlight, electromagnetic radiation, and that the planets have no light of their own. The planets may have some quality of energetic emanations, but that only brings up the question of whether emanations are expressed out into the solar system in a similar or different pathway than electromagnetic radiation is.) That being said, as the planets revolve around the Sun, each having its own solar year, and as the solar system itself is moving through space, there is a elaborate 'dance' of their positions to each other, which can only be appreciated by way of an animated illustration. (no doubt available somewhere on KZbin) . It would seem reasonable to propose that there are some conjunctions between the planets that occur that are out of a position to have much effect on the Earth, whereas at other times, a conjunction would have a stronger influence. A more pedestrian point of view would be to place oneself in the Place de la Nation in Paris France, a hub with several streets radiating out from it. For a person standing at the center, a near collision between two vehicles, a car and a large truck in the case of Mars and Jupiter, and the screeching of brakes, heard a block away will be heard more intensely than a similar occurrence two blocks away (Jupiter and Neptune, or three blocks away, Neptune and Uranus.) And if any tensions between two planets occur, then those tensions will affect each planet as well, and not just the earth. And a conjunction between Mars and Venus is of a different order as the Earth is between them in terms of their respective distance from the Sun. Just because they 'appear' to be near each other from the Earths point of view, doesn't mean that they are any closer to each other in actuality, it just means that one is passing in front of each other, in their respective orbits, from our singular point of perspective. When Gurdjieff and Ospensky made these observations of planetary influences, they had a more limited understanding of planetary movements than we have today. This is not to take anything away from their observations, but to say that we need to bring such observations up to current scientific knowledge. Were Gurdjieff alive today, he would nt be using piano rolls as a way to describe the functioning of the Centers and how they record information and impressions. Jean Vaysse in Towards Awakening, makes the statement that cosmic influences have no effect on false personality, as a false personality is not real enough to be affected by cosmic influences. Perhaps that relates more to Astrology, and the narrative of personal fictions, and not to the way that cosmic forces exert an influence on unconscious motivations. And there is also the consideration of the area of the galaxy that the solar system is traveling through - there are no doubt cosmic or stellar forces that are acting on all of the planets in our solar system, which in turn would affect or influence the degree or quality of the tensions between two planets whose orbits brought them into conjunction. All of this is of course not to disagree with Gurdjieff's observation that on occasion, or at somewhat regular intervals, people go insane and start slaughtering each other. But it bears saying that if there weren't such tensions already existing in people that such cosmic influences would have a diminished affect. And of course Mr G has a lot to say about such tensions within us, and the value of creating conscious frictions within ourselves as a necessary means of conscious evolution.

Has anyone read Rodney Collins book, The Theory of Celestial Influence? He was a student of Gurdjieff. I haven't myself, but it is there on my shelf...

Look up Helioseismology, & those wonderful pictures of how the Sun oscillates, it's a harmonic resonator, just like the Earth's ionosphere & Geomagnetosphere, notice I've left the biggest system in the Solar system out of the picture.

what is still a bit hard to understand to me, is the carbon-oxygen-nitrogen-hydrogen part of Gurdjieff's teaching... i was more familiar with the classical occult fire-air-water-earth elements, but my current understanding is that G's elements are like the qualities of the elements (hot-cold, dry-moist) and the "hydrogens" are the classical elements that the qualities make up. what do you think, is this a somewhat accurate understanding?
@bookclub52912 жыл бұрын
Hey David. I think that is a good starting point for sure. This concept was one of the most difficult for me to understand in the past, especially in regards the food diagram and other aspects of the system. I think working through it together and discussing this part of the system will help us to develop our understanding.

What do you think specifically is causing the Tension most people are experiencing in January 2024 Lewis ?
@bookclub529111 ай бұрын
It would be a number of factors Igor; changes within the global order, many countries having elections this year, the rise of AI and its impact on us as individuals, and many other things. I think the main issue though, is that no one, not even ‘the experts’ can help to reassure us it is all going to work out and how. Due to the above factors, it is as if things are at a cross roads, as Gurdjieff says, there are points in history where there is a huge potential for humanity to change course, and I believe that this is just such a time. It is up to us as individuals to pursue what we find meaningful, whatever that is to us. The tension will be here for some time I feel Igor, what with everything I listed above. So it’s up to us to find peace amongst this tension. The calm in the eye of the storm. Be in the world, but not of the world. 🙏

@@bookclub5291 I agree with you. It’s anxiety about the future with so many conflicting voices & opinions. The bookclub seems like the perfect antidote or the shelter from the storm ☔️. Thanks for what you do Lewis 🌑 🙏
Was it western astrology or Ancient Indian Astrology. Gurdjieff did advise to know your natal astrological chart.

I’m not sure what school of astrology Gurdjieff advocated for. But he definitely placed a big emphasis on the influence that the stars and planets have on humanity.

I think gurdjieff was referring to Babylonian astrology and astrology only effects essence which is organic whereas personally is mechanical.

As a professional astrologer for the past 38 years, I can tell you that several statistical tests have compared both the Tropical and the Sidereal Zodiac for statistical relevance. It is very clear, the Tropical zodiac reveals itself to be statistically relevant. Whereas the Sidereal zodiac shows no statistical relevance whatsoever.
