Thanks for taking the time to delve into this most puzzling and pivotal event in Gurdjieff's story. I find I keep on coming back to ponder the nature of this incomprehensible incident. It was after all, only after this crash that he decided to dedicate himself to becoming an author, and no ordinary author of course. What a Man!

Hi Martin , The more I ponder on this one , the more I become convinced that it was no accident. So many things point to it being meticulously planned and orchestrated. Olga de Hartmann was determined to travel with him that day. And he persuaded her otherwise. After the crash he was found by the roadside with his head on a cushion ! Prior to the crash , he'd said that he wanted to drastically shake things up at Le Prieure. Following the crash , he asked most people to leave. He then began what turned out to be the most extraordinary book ever written , with only a few close people around him. Here we have a man who had a PhD in slyness. It's taken me a very long time to make gains from Beelzebub's tales , so much effort must be put into the reading of it. When one does , it's like a veil is lifted and one enters another dimension and discovers divine diamonds of an indescribable kind. Happy new year eternal recurrence ✨🎉

Indeed, @@hermesnoelthefourthway. At the age of sixteen I stole a copy of Beebzebub's Tales from a book store in Manchester (my home town), I knew nothing about it's author but I felt compelled to do so. Prior to that I had permanently 'borrowed' a copy of A New Model of The Universe from my local library. I had no idea the two books were connected, until I did some further reading on the subject. This was the start of what has become a lifelong fascination with the ideas of Mr Gurdjieff. I am now 66, in Earth years and the bones I've been digging for turn out to be my bones. What a grave situation! I find your emotive approach on here quite refreshing compared to some of the dryer tendrils of the Work found on this platform. Thanks again.

Fascinating story. Noel, I resonate with your conclusion of "I don't know" in the face of really not knowing, although as I'm listening further along in this video, it sounds like you actually do lean towards the orchestration of the crash. It certainly would have been an effective filtering device and direction changer, as well as not being out of character for Gurdjieff from what we know of him. The shock and awe of the students...I can only imagine. How beautiful that the lawnmower, Fritz Peters, kept mowing--like the legendary band playing as the Titanic went down ( was that even true?) Thank you for the thoughtful treatment of this subject. My jury is still out. And the Work continues....💙

00:00-46:55 introduction and an indepth account of events leading up to the crash and its aftermath. 46:55-56:24 My own interpretation and analysis of events. On the roof rack of the car Gurdjieff is driving on the thumbnail is an elaborately packed Tikliamishian comfort sofa. Which he was on his way to flog to a Catalonian whirling dervish in Montmartre. Orage is in the back seat , fearing for his life , as he attempts to translate Beelzebub's tales.

He orchestrated it . For his full realization. That was his last step to realization

I agree. "A man who is not under the law of accident cannot have accidents befall him." Ouspensky's response to the "accident".

an unfortunate set of circumstances, exacerbated or precipitated by too many drinkies, i bet.. and someone's stubbornness or ill fate, perhaps... [oh: the 'justice'?]

Bottoms up 🍺 and bottoms outta the car 🚗 🤪 If you're going on a spree , go the whole hog including the postage (a celebrated quip from chapter one of Beelzebub's tales )

well, now, the steering wheel would definitely have taken quite a 'hit', and so of course it was damaged, haha
