My son trains under Guro Harley at his martial arts academy in Wichita Falls Texas. He's a brilliant instructor in so many ways. Not only does he teach self defense, but he teaches the way one should act with such training. You can see it in my boy's attitude and growth mentally as well as his incredible physical abilities. You should see how quickly the kids echo "EYES ON WHO?!" with "EYES ON YOU SIR/MAM!" Plus if you're fighting in school, it will get you kicked out of the academy.

exactly. Even those who have practiced matrial arts (all forms) can never know what to expect if they need to use their skills. Simply practicing, just prepares the body to react, if, and only if you are being threatened. Best thing to take care of that bully? find a new route through the halls. Be a "Ninja" Learn to avoid by being un-noticable. that, you have more control with.

I have been looking for this move for a while.. I have a Cane Corso, weighing about 130 lbs., while wrestling with him he struck me in the neck with his front arm, I dropped hard and fast, it was painful, and left half my body paralized for about a minute, while I was down I was glad it was my dog and not an enemy, because I was defensess.. Thanks for the info..
@jm8torres14 жыл бұрын
The anatomical structure to which you're referring is not the brachial plexus, which is located in the shoulder region and, if struck, immobilizes the arm temporarily. The part you're talking about in the video is called the carotid body, which is, in part, responsible for regulating blood pressure. It's located at the branching of the common carotid artery. Probably too much info, but just FYI. Sound technique though! Please keep'em coming!

Awesome demo, Guro Harley! Love it.

You dont have to hit hard at all. When we received training in this it took hardly any effort to incapacitate the other Marine. Unfortunately the Brachial Plexus has nothing to do with blood pressure and everything to do with the extremities and muscles of the torso. A quick, solid, open hand chop with the knife edge of the hand will suffice. For those of you dissapointed by the video, GHL was practicing safety measures in the training environment by using his forearm. It was a good lesson.
@miwerino12 жыл бұрын
Never thought about incorporating that into a trapping move. Cool! I usually use a backhand or a forearm strike. One more option now, thanks.

Absolutely true. Using your brain and mouth are the best ways of defence in a lot of situations. Prevention is better than a cure. Also like warriorswayTX said, thinking and using your brain is the best way fighting will only lead to repercussions. That stuns pretty good though
@thedoctorgreg12 жыл бұрын
The brachial plexus does not control blood pressure. The Coratid sinus does. A strike to the side of the neck has a chance of affecting either one.

@WarriorswayTX The sooner you learn to deal with people in a non violent manner, the better off you will be. there are always options, you just have to be open to them. All adults eventually learn to deal with others without violence.

is this ok to do to my mom when she tells me to clean my room?
@WarriorswayTX14 жыл бұрын
@TheFounderOfNothing, yes, you could use a wide variety of tools to strike this target. I have found the forearm to fit nicely and give very little, delivering the most force into the fluid shock wave. But feel free to experiment. I would stay away from knife hands, bones of forearms, shins, etc. that might focus the power too much and cause cervical issues.

Awesome move. I saw the marines do this and i was instantly a fan of this move. I have 1 question though, If you chop at that point on the neck too hard, is it possible to accidentally kill the person?
@kyleaziz780314 жыл бұрын
@WarriorswayTX I agree, I'd stay from the knife hand and similar methods you mentioned. Been taught by our teacher that it could kill the person.
@WarriorswayTX14 жыл бұрын
@jm8torres thanks. I learned this from a Police Officer who trains new officers. He taught me how they do it and their medical explanation. I know that the law enforcement community spent tons of money researching how and why it works so they wouldn't get sued using this technique. I just use their research, terms, explanations, etc. I am not a Dr. and have no medical training, so my explanation is just my best effort to remember and explain how it was taught to me. That's my "waiver" lol.

One question: is the arm bone supposed to make contact with the front slope of the next, making contact with the windpipe, on the backside, terminating on the tendon to the trapisious, on at the corner in between?
@Semiotichazey12 жыл бұрын
Well obviously, that's why WWTX teaches martial arts. But I think he is right to encourage attempts to find another solution. Besides, you have to consider his liability if he tells a kid to use this move and either party gets seriously injured or killed. Basically, it's very mature advice. But you do have a point, if only for a minority of cases. Some people see diplomacy as weakness, especially if they are already acting aggressively.
@WarriorswayTX13 жыл бұрын
@EBB47 Hello. yes, I did hit him solidly, which means with follow through, but not hard, meaning not with maximum effort. I'm sure you would be able to hit harder, as would most people. The point I'm trying to make in this video is that targeting is important even in empty hand training. Guro Harley

Just a question, Is it , if feasible, more effective to bring both arms together on either side? Second question, Is the cup-your-hands and hit the ears move effective? If so, is it possibly deadly? lots'a people, have issues with me, and plenty of them have attempted to start fights that i simply evade,but that can't last forever. I have a book on "natural weapons" (hand to hand/CQC) while the book lists suvh things, i would rather get advice from more of an expert.
@WarriorswayTX13 жыл бұрын
@WestCoastIrk yes, I'm sure you could kill someone with this move if performed incorrectly or too aggressively. So use with caution and only in self defense.
@wewuz11 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure he just means to visualise yourself going through water or fluid, just a mental image so you follow through with the strike. At least thats what I understood. Sorry if I'm wrong.

With this "fluid shock wave" what is the physics behind it? Or are you talking about an Impuse of force? (Impusle = force x time of contact) Love your stuff but please update your terms.
@Bmcoomes11 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you are correct. I have great respect of Guro Elmore. Even though I've never meet him. However, the fluid shock wave term, as far as I'm aware of, came from PPCT (pressure point control tactics). It is a misnomer of the physics of combat science. It's one of those concepts that sound great, but is flawed when scrutinized. The reason I brought it up was because of the respect for Guro Elmore. He is a great instructor from the video side of the house that I could let this sit.

@WestCoastIrk Any strike on or very near the neck is extremely dangerous. It doesn't take much force at all to collapse the major arteries and veins on the sides of the neck; and such an injury is absolutely lethal. I knife handed a drunk who followed my girlfriend and I out of a bar and into the parking lot to fight and it dropped him like flipping a switch. It was a heavy blow and at first I thought I'd killed him. This is a really dangerous strike.

I can usually get out of being in trouble because my mom has epilepsy and I tell her she had another seizure
@Semiotichazey12 жыл бұрын
If lots of people have issues with you, then perhaps you are somehow encouraging trouble. It could be because you antagonize them, or because you seem vulnerable to bullies (or both). In the latter case, it can be useful to learn how to fight, because the confidence that you gain may insure that you never have to use it. The first question should really be how can you avoid these situations in the first place. But like I said to AudioMayhem100, it's true that you can't always avoid a fight.
@WarriorswayTX12 жыл бұрын
@x4mpl3 LOL, probably not. Since I used a big white dude I should have said that. Or actually have used a big black dude. Sorry for the confusion. trust me, there's no difference to me who I'm hitting :)

@joshua8ls You should explore what other alternatives to fighting you might have. The truth is even techniques like this take time and practice to become effective. The reality is that if you tried this you will still be in a fight and you might get harmed. So I would find an alternative to fighting. Fighting is one way to deal with issues, and not a good one. Trust me, you will have problems with people all your life, you can't go around fighting them all!

Sure, but it'll only knock her out briefly. What are you gonna do, knock her out repeatedly until she forgets about the room cleaning thing? That sounds impractical and dinner's not going to fix itself.
