A former boyfriend introduced me to Gurren Lagann. I didn't have a ton of interest in the first few episodes, but I began to enjoy it as the series progressed. There are many layers and an impactful message in the series you explained well in this video. I admire the scene when Kamina tells Simon to "believe in the Simon that believes in himself" as I found it an empowering perspective.
