From Season 4, Episode 01: "Box Cutter"
Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

Before I'd watched BCS I already felt sad that Victor died. Seen this actor in other roles and like him too as he adds some charm to his characters and he's a smiler. He has a little smile that's childlike in a way and you see him smiling in BCS too I believe when they twins are trying to carry hector away and he finds it funny. Just a little note about the actors quirk to be smiley and how it made me feel bad for his death

@Goofball61 yeah. I think he was like, "has fring finally lost it". That was funny though. Him pointing the gun at his boss. Because it was so uncharacteristic to see gus do that. And that was his associate he just killed. Maybe that was instinct to protect his associate.
@S475-pb2dp
@S475-pb2dp 7 ай бұрын
@Goofball61 yeah, I mean, he'd raise a gun to dangerous people. He did that his entire life. Yeah that could play a part in it. It was his instinct to raise his gun to protect himself and others. He went on autopilot at that moment. He was scared though. His reaction says it all, and his face. Imo, Him being a police officer is why he didn't just shoot gus right there. Ironic I know. Police usually murder people that way all the time. But Mike used to be a good cop, and he's discipline in these situations to not shoot people when shit hits the fan. You can only imagine what would happen if he did shoot gus. You see how he only raises his gun for a second, because he momentarily lost his composer and instinct took over. Mike thought that gus had finally lost it and was gonna kill everyone in that room. I mean, it was so uncharacteristic of gus to do that. The way gus killed the guy too was very brutal and cold. It was intimidating and random

@Goofball61 that's what I said in another comment on here. Walt was roasting the shit out of this, and proved that he was basically a useless idiot who can't cook for shit. And plus all the fuck ups he commited prior. If gus was gonna give a death sentence to a bad employee it should be that fool. He wasn't gonna single out Walt, this went for everyone employed by him. It's pretty cool but I think that he could've at least done it a bit cleaner, and not, well, like that. Fuck victor though, he's a smug idiot. Who proved to gus and gave himself a death sentence. I hate his face too. And his voice. They need to get more actors that are cool badasses like nacho.

Gus knew Walter's value from the beginning, what got him really mad was the failure of Victor in saving Gale, who is someone Gus liked, combined with Victor attempting to diminish the importance of Gus having a good chemist who could reliably synthesize high purity methamphetamine and then using this to minimize his failure. It's as if Victor was calling Gus dumb for investing so much money building a secret underground laboratory and paying millions to an actual chemist to run the operation instead of some methhead cooking drugs on a makeshift lab.

He saw a guy get an unprovoked slice to the neck so the cop inside him draws the weapon to neutralise the criminal and stop him hurting any more civilians, it's so ingrained into his programming he just does it on auto-pilot. Imagine if Victor knew the answer to every one of Walter's questions. "Catalytic hydrogenation: is it protic or aprotic?" "Aprotic. No protons are donated in the process". "...Ok. Well, if our process isn't stereospecific, then how can we be sure that our product is enantiomerically pure?" "You can't be sure. It must be stereospecific". "....Ok. Well, when reducing to methamphetamine, which chiral center is eliminated again? Because I forgot". 'It depends on how the molecule is oriented. It could be the R or the S chiral center. One of them gets eliminated. Of course, you want to reduce to pure dextromethamphetamine only, while excluding the much weaker levomethamphetamine". Walter gives Victor a long, confused stare. Gus puts on an awesome performance. His lack of words and nonverbal demeanor added uncertainty to the equation. It did a great job of maintaining a constant state of fear, because nobody had any idea what was going to happen next. Then he killed the least suspecting person in the room, who thought he had Gus completely figured out. He’s proven to Walt and Jesse that he’s totally unpredictable and capable of anything and that it is unwise to underestimate him. If they do, they’ll end up like Victor.

I love how this scene isn't just the typical evil boss kills a henchman because he's angry scene. Part of why Gus kills Victor is definitely because he's outraged at what has happened and he's venting his frustration out on Victor. However, killing Victor also serves a practical purpose as Victor was spotted at the scene of Gale's death, making him a loose end and a threat to the entire operation, something which Gus won't tolerate.

ppl saw his face at Gale's crime scene, victor had to go. Gus just used that opportunity to scare those guys to death, to make sure they do what they're told. But sometimes scaring your underlings can go to far, to the point where they turn on you. This happened in Philadelphia when nicky scarfo decided to kill Salvie Testa, that made the guys in that crew turn on Scarfo, even his nephew. They felt like if he could do this to someone as loyal as Salvie Testa, over almost nothing, then he wouldn't hesitate to do it to them.

Fun fact: This scene was truly improvised by actor Giancarlo Esposito, who *actually* slit the throat of his co-actor Jermiah Bitsui, because of a prior argument they had, before shooting the scene. Gus was originally supposed to just knock Victor down, but this whole thing was an improv from Giancarlo Esposito, which shocked Vince and the other actors on set (which is why you see Mike pointing his gun towards Gus, Johnathan Banks was actually shocked by what happened). Vince liked the improvisation, and also the fact that the reactions by the other actors were genuine, thus, he decided to keep it.
