I like Don Eladio's look of caution as Gustavo holds up the drink to toast as if to make sure he didn't poison the drink. Too bad Don Eladio didn't know Gustavo was willing to poison himself in order for the plan to go off without a hitch.

The entire Salamanca family was practically just looking for evidence, they were 100% convinced of that, and he KNEW that. Gus was on the brink of an open WAR with the cartel at the moment. All that, and he just pops the drink open and swallows it? Doesn't he know antidotes exist? Doesn't he know you can build immunity to certain poisons with enough preparation time? It didn't cross his mind Gus might be going to the toilet immediately after to puke the poison right back up? Nothing? He is an IDIOT!

Honestly it’s a miracle it actually worked out before Gus’s death. Dude dedicated all those years, money and any sort of friend or partner, yet despite every setback he managed to get his revenge and become the king of the criminal world. Unfortunately he underestimated the tenacity of his enemies who consists of wheelchair bound man and a pissed off high school chemistry teacher and a Bus bench lawyer.

First time I notice it. Walt berates Jesse for not finding a way to poison Gus at dinner. Jesse says they were eating from the same pot, and Gus never left the room, was Jesse supposed to poison himself? That is, of course, the same difficulty Gus faced when poisoning Don Eladio. He knew Eladio would never eat or drink anything Gus gave him unless Gus also had some. So he did poison himself in order to get Eladio.

It also contrasts walt and gus. Walt would never put himself at risk, he's to arrogant for that. Jesse on the other hand, isn't brave enough, understandably.

There’s also the fact that you cannot purge ricin from your system in the same way that Gus did with the poisoned tequila. Also, Gus had a capsule that slowed his absorption of the poison, allowing him to avoid serious damage. If he found out that Jesse went to the hospital shortly after they met, he’d know something was up, get treated himself, and have the two of them made into slurry in a barrel by the end of the week.

I'm a Mexican American. Don Eladio is played by a Cuban so the Spanish is diff but Steven Bauer really kicked ass on this character and the scenes are authentic. He does a great job. It seems pretty Mexican to me.
