Honestly it’s a miracle it actually worked out before Gus’s death. First time I notice it. Walt berates Jesse for not finding a way to poison Gus at dinner. Jesse says they were eating from the same pot, and Gus never left the room, was Jesse supposed to poison himself? That is, of course, the same difficulty Gus faced when poisoning Don Eladio. He knew Eladio would never eat or drink anything Gus gave him unless Gus also had some. So he did poison himself in order to get Eladio.

There’s also the fact that you cannot purge ricin from your system in the same way that Gus did with the poisoned tequila. Also, Gus had a capsule that slowed his absorption of the poison, allowing him to avoid serious damage. If he found out that Jesse went to the hospital shortly after they met, he’d know something was up, get treated himself, and have the two of them made into slurry in a barrel by the end of the week.
