Yup, historia magistra vita est. Michael finished on this note, and I cant agree more. Its just a hobby of mine, since 40 years ago, and yes, one never stops learning. Michael's presentations are for me, a kind of lullaby, and I dont mean it in a derrogatory way. He presents his military thoughts in simple and logical ways, like on a platter. Not that i'm in full agreement with him on everything, but we're rarely on opposite sides.

But Michael Kofman owes this war. She made him popular, in demand. For some, death, poverty, ruin. For others, honor, respect on the part of Western society. It seems that we have begun to forget the true causes of wars. Civilian military experts serving the military industrial complex are very dangerous people. They create a toxic information field that contributes to the outbreak of wars. civilian people do not understand the full weight of the war that falls on society. For these experts, war is a fun game, an exciting game. It feels like these guys haven't had enough of playing soldiers in childhood. They decided to put into practice their complexes and dreams. It's dangerous. These experts popularize the war. This is a dangerous phenomenon. War becomes something acceptable, something popular. And millions of people are paying for these ideas. We live in a world of ideas. The ideas that Kofman and other military experts spread, especially civilians. People who never they didn't fight, they didn't kill. People who do not know the price of war and peace. We can say that the conflict in Ukraine in 2022 was a gift of fate for Michael Kofman. But this war is a tragedy for millions of people... It can be said that drops of blood are dripping from the hands of this person... There is not much difference between Putin's conditional Ruslan Pukhov and Western Michael Kofman. Both of these people drag their countries and societies into the crucible of war. both of them defend the interests of the military-industrial complex in the public space of their communities. this is what makes war acceptable and possible. soon these experts will say that nuclear war is cool. The tragedy of millions is an opportunity for hype for a huge number of military experts, retired military. Glory and honors for some, the severity of the war, loss, death of loved ones for others... The irony of fate... The joke of the story.. In 25 years there will still be a revision of historiography, revision of ideas, revision of opinions. Opinions will change again.....

The Russian military despite its flaws is certainly the second most powerful in the world, on land and air. There is no other military in Europe that comes close to matching Russia's overall firepower, logistics, and numbers.

That is a gross oversimplification of both Soviet and especially current Russian doctrine. Junior officers did and even more so than in the Soviet Army do have latitude to execute a number of battle drills that they are expected to apply correctly and tailor to the situation at hand. Battle drills are NOT as practiced by Arab militaries such as the Egyptians or Syrians but more analogous to Russian tactical performance in Afghanistan and in Georgia.

@@WorshipinIdols The lack of professional NCOs is a weakness but there are battle drills for each level, and battalion and regimental commanders have always been expected to know them well and when in exercise practice them with low levels of interference from high command except to simulate changes in the tactical or operational situation. Of course, higher level commanders reserve the right to bypass the chain of command - but that does not mean that mid level officers are expected to be unimaginative, rigid, and have little knowledge of wielding formations autonomously.

This "teddy bear" is more than capable of ending the world at worst, and Russian Federation itself in less awful scenario - which is still eons far from being anywhere near "best". If somebody would've not introduced sanctions - this "teddy bear" would've been questioned about it's disgustingly over-inflated scale and cost *years ago*. Sadly, we have what we have. Hope you're enjoying new Cold War even a slightest bit. I certainly do not.

What should have really happened was that the west shouldn't have allowed russian capital and corruption to enter its economies, a very tough ask and no use now but there it is. Much else that could have been done? Well I would say rather than sending a bunch of idiot true believer randite 24 year olds over to reorg russias society and economy after the fall, we should have focused above all else in splitting russia into different countries along its true pre-existing fault lines. All that effort and suddenly we forget how effective divide and rule is? No use now. So what do we do? We face reality. Start the dark arts up again, try to make some free capital at russian expense and wait for them to suffer its next external or internal crisis.

I am saying that a partition of your country in 1991 accomplished through political subversion was a sitter, it was obvious.
