Gussow's classic blues harmonica videos live just south of Jackson. Went over to Hal and Mals listening to some blues and heard some harmonica and got the itch, again. Found your KZbin channel and learning a little each day. Ole trumpet player here and always liked the harmonica. Going to get your online classes soon. Thanks for sharing

I've played this song a bit in the past and never bothered to go to the trouble of doing the correct version. I don't think my way was bad, but it's much improved since taking in your post. Cheers.

I remember trying to play along to Cream's version of this song about a year ago. Thanks to this lesson, I'm gonna give it a go again. Plus, now I've got a MB A-harp. Back then, I was using a Sp-20. (Am I the only one who finds it easier to play longer without running out of breath when playing a wood comb harmonica as opposed to a plastic comb one?)

I hate MB harps because the comb is recessed creating a groove. This makes the cover plates a blade that feels sharp to my tongue. Also, it can pull uncomfortably at my mustache. I love the SP20 as it solves all of these problems by making the comb higher than the cover plates.

I've heard the same complaints about the MB from others, but personally I never really noticed it, nor did it ever really bother me, and I french kiss that thing when I play it. I only occasionally have a moustache-when I'm too lazy to shave my whole face-but when I do, I've rarely gotten a hair pull. (I've also had the occasional hair pull playing an SP20, as well, BTW.) Sometimes, I've noticed an MB can be a bit sharp out of the box, but it seems to dull down a lot after I've been playing it for a little while. (Maybe my lips and tongue are sanding them down. Damned if I know why.) I don't dislike the SP20. I learned how to play on those things. They're good solid harps. However, I find plastic combs, in general, are less comfortable for me play than wood combed harps. I find I can move up and down the instrument and hit the holes with confidence and intuitiveness more with the wood comb. I find my lips dragging on a plastic comb. Plus, there's a certain sound that wood comb makes that you can't get with plastic, especially when hitting cords and dirty notes and slapping around the licker. A wood comb breaths and vibrates the way a dense plastic comb can't.

All of the blues greats played the traditional MB, so, I know that my problems with the MB are my own and could be surmounted. I can see why the groove could be an advantage as sort of a guide for the tongue with the MB and could help with accuracy. The idea that there's a sound difference between wood and plastic combs is a controversial one. The physics says that there should be no difference between the two. But, based on your comments, maybe I'll give the MB another try, but I hope that I still don't like them as much as the SP20, because I have about 50 SP20s.

I must be ADVANCED thought I was only INTERMEDIATE. Starting to understand the ease and cool octaves of tongue blocking, got 4 different key harps, can bend, and Im getting over blows, which arent that hard to hit, anymore, either. Now? Now, facing fear of playing in public. Slaìnte, mates!

Allen Mahan let's face it. unless were playing frontman harp like gussow then we are intermediate. I can play most of Adams riffs that he teaches, but I still only consider myself intermediate. would you like to swap a few riffs for something different.
