When he said “you have all the sound in your hands” it just felt so deep, it’s exactly what I feel, Dudamel is just such a big inspiration.

Wow I love how Dudamel is so positive in the way he asks the orchestra to play and change. I envy his ability to express so freely. He really puts himself out there

@AbsoluteZ3R0 - I rather believe that Dudamel (being front and center of an orchestra that's playing an inspired performance after a lot of hard work) feels sublime joy upon hearing the music playing in perfect harmony and so dearly expressing the emotions intended by the composer, be it happy or sad.

The main thing I dislike about Dudamel's conducting is that no matter what he's conducting, he always seems happy. He seemed happy when he was conducting the climax of 2nd movement of Shostakovich's 10th symphony, and he seemed happy at 2:49. It seems like he's always having a lot of fun, which is a great thing, but I want to see some anguish and rage sometimes (often actually).

@@gua35470 Well to be fair, he does look like he's enjoying that performance as well, even though there's rage. But I don't think that's a bad thing. Music is supposed to be one of the joys of life. Even with music meant to be sad, aggressive, terrifying, etc. it's not supposed to be a negative experience for the musicians or audience. Why would we listen to music if it was altogether unpleasant? For example, Shostokovich's 10th Symphony movement 2 is filled with a horrifying power, and it makes you imagine Stalin's oppressive regime, or war and turmoil in general. But... I like it. It's one of my absolute favorite pieces! I don't think that's sick or anything, and it doesn't mean I like oppression or war - it's just the way music is. The expression of emotion and the skill of the orchestra create an element of joy even in the bleakest of emotions.

@TheStockwell How about Dudamel being from a family of limited economic means. Being from the provinces of Venezuela, and shooting to the top of the classical music world. Those conductors whom you mentioned come from wealthy upper class european backgrounds makes Dudamel and Venezuela all the more IMPRESSIVE. He must be thanking God that he was not born a Latino in the USA.

@kuan12345 Man, I wish people would stop making a big deal about Dudamel being young. He's thrilling but most conductors are in front of orchestras by the time they're in their twenties. Toscanini was conducting entire operas when he was in his 20s. Heck, Lorin Maazel - you'd consider him old - was taking conducting lessons at 7 and conducted at age 8. What's impressive is the level of success Dudamel has had so far. But the thing about him being young is, seriously, not unique or amazing.

@TheStockwell No, you are wrong. Dudamel had his own orchestra at age sixteen! Toscanini came from Italy, the country of the Renaissance, Verdi, Rossini, and all the great composers of Italy and Europe. That was the envoronment that Toscanini came from. Dudamel came from the provences of Venezuela, a country plunder by Spain and the USA, It has a history of slavery, plantations, extreme exploitation corruption and violence. It is a testamony to the Bolivarian Revolution that produced Dudamel.
