We are in Kotor, a medieval walled city located on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Literally its name is “The City of Cats”
Traveling is hyperliving and we will continue to show this side of the map. We hope you like my participation in the channel, I am learning better Spanish to be able to participate in the next videos.
Dace's voice incorporated into this video series was a promise we had made to the community. Montenegro is a good place for you to start getting involved.
Montenegro has been an independent country since 2006. Before that, it was part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and today, even with its particularities, it remains a region that proudly inherits the legacy of those years.
The small beach of Kotor has a special charm, golden sand framed between mountains and the changing color of the waters make one feel literally in a perfect paradise.
Kotor is located in a protected bay, known as the Bay of Kotor, which is often called the southernmost fjord in Europe. The bay is of glacial origin and is surrounded by steep mountains. The old town of Kotor is a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets, lined with stone houses and historic buildings. The city is full of churches, museums and other places of cultural interest. Kotor has a rich history dating back to ancient times. The city was founded by the Romans and has been ruled by a variety of powers over the centuries, including the republics of Venice and Ragusa.
If you are planning a trip to Kotor, here are some things to keep in mind. The best time to visit Kotor is during spring or fall, when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller.
Kotor is a tourist town, so it can be quite busy in high season. If you want to avoid the crowds, it is best to visit early in the morning or late at night.
Kotor is an affordable destination to travel to. You can find reasonably priced accommodation, food and activities at Eastern European levels, much more convenient than in classic, tourist-crowded Europe.
Some activities you can enjoy in Kotor include exploring the old town on foot or by horse-drawn carriage, or visiting Kotor Cathedral, a 12th-century Roman Catholic church.
Climbing the city walls to enjoy stunning views of the bay, taking a ferry to the islands of Sveti Đorđe and Gospa od Škrpjela or visiting the Kotor Maritime Museum to learn about local maritime history can complete a couple of journeys.
Kotor is a beautiful and fascinating city with much to offer visitors. With its rich history, impressive architecture and natural surroundings, it is a destination that will surely not disappoint.
