This lore is deeper than dark souls. Buster Sales is the living essence of evil, doomed to an eternity of being trapped in the TV after being defeated by the angels Brian the Mighty and Doug the Wholesome thousands of years ago. He seeks freedom by any means necessary through communication with young girls as their minds are the easiest to penetrate. He seeks to harbor into a new soul to carry out his destruction of the universe but is constantly stopped by Doug and his apprentice Marge Simpson. So Buster carries out his days torturing the souls who have been trapped in his domain till he can find a worthy body to migrate to

I think Buster Sales was an employee 1 day from a promotion due to his amazing sales experience but one tragic night the shelves containing all the Looney Tunes collapsed on him and killed him, leaving his soul to forever haunt the screens with all the cartoon props from the covers that killed him, driving him insane and into a cartoon ghost himself, who can only rest once he has a prodigy who can finally earn the promotion he so desperately wanted in his name.

"How did I do?" Her hairspray lingered in the air, mixing with the ozone from the CRTs, brief respite from the coagulated stench of old plastic that caked into the walls, into the clothes, and into the minds of all who enter. Buster's eyes shifted, uncertain and lacking cohesion. He would be revealed if he remained for too long. He had to be brief. "Your actions will always have consequences, Marie. Mrs. Simpson will return to her husband soon. That husband will discover the missing funds. He will enact change upon the world around you. Marie, you've done well for Blockbuster, and yet you don't appear to understand the cost beyond the register. Perhaps a sale is more important, perhaps a man is merely flesh, we are all shackled to humanity. Blockbuster strives for better. Blockbuster strives to be a beacon to weather the storm. A sign of hope deep within the hopeless caverns. There is always change, but that change can be created for good, or it can be entropy. You, Marie, strive to upend all that we do. You stray from our ideals, from our purpose. Be mindful of the turbulence, Marie. The chaos demands much, you might just want to hang on."

As a former 90s Blockbuster employee I just wanted to let you know that “cleaning your VCR heads every 20 hours” means every 20 hours of VCR use (which is still absolutely ridiculous). I’m sure a hundred other former Blockbuster employees have mentioned this already. Anyway, it was glorious to watch this video again.

So this came out in 1990, which means it was likely written and filmed in 1989...the first episode of The Simpsons wasn't until December of 1989, so it's likely that the woman being named Marge Simpson is just a gigantic coincidence!

Buster needs some training himself. He could have had her pushing candy and snacks for the baby sitter too! I worked for Black Buster for 3 months in 2006. The newer training videos were not any better. At that point they were starting to lose money to online services and were coming up with all kinds of new ways to try keeping business coming in. The basic training for employees "Make them spend far more money than they planned to when they came in!". As for cleaning the VCR every 20 hours, they are not talking about 20 hours in a day, but 20 hours of after 20 hours of using the VCR. So basically after watching 18, or 19 movies, depending on how long they played. That one I remember as a friend took a class on cleaning VCRs and she would clean them after every 20 movies.
