My brother had a similar experience. We had a party at our lake house and grilled burgers and had a keg and just had a good time with about 20 friends. The next day while at work he almost collapsed due to severe pain in his stomach. He actually drove himself from the beach to the hospital (roughly 20 miles) in excruciating pain. They thought it was his appendix and removed it and then found that it wasn’t that it was a piece of metal that had traveled to his small intestine and tore about an inch. They had to remove it and put his intestines back together. Turns out it was a piece of the grill brush used to clean grill before cooking and he just happened to get that burger. It’s more common than you would think. So only wooden grill brushes from now on in our family. The flame burns it! Thanks Mr Ballen for making my days better. I listen to you daily

That's a real tragedy! They took the 2nd baby away from the parents in 1 of the most informative years of life! Awful but so glad they got their son back and were able to be with him as his parents until he sadly passed on. They also kept an innocent woman in jail all that time!! Ugh Those poor people! Thank God that Dr helped them and l hope they got a very large sum of money. Thank you for this very interesting story.

I'm just a paramedic and I was 90% sure that lady had Stevens-Johnson syndrome once he told us about the rash and blood blisters in her mouth. The ER doc should have seen this as well and called in derm instead of/along with infectious disease. In medic school saw a lady with this syndrome in the burn unit. She was way worse than even the more severe burn patients.

As a paramedic i too enjoy the stories, and he does better than most, but still plenty of issues...mostly procedural. If he has a medical consultant for his stories he probably should hire a different one. If it's just him and non medical people...then I agree he does wonderful.

These parents went through hell. I can’t imagine how she felt bring in prison for murder of her baby boy, locked up, unable to do anything, then have an idiot useless lawyer who holds her, her husband and their 2nd sons future in his hands. I’d lose my mind. I sure hope this couple have managed to find some peace and happiness in their life.

What you should be hating is the NEED for CPS in the first place. CPS wouldn’t even have to exist if it wasn’t for abusive, negligent parents. And while they are far, far from perfect, and in my own opinion, needs a complete overhaul, CPS exists for a reason. So…maybe your “hate” should be directed at the root cause of their existence.

A friend of mine got a tiny piece of barbecue brush bristle caught in her tongue. She swelled up terribly. Couldn't eat or Breathe good. It was horrible. Don't use those brushes on the grill!!!

In my career as an RN, I have only had 2 patients with SJS. Anti-inflammatory meds are the cause. Don’t know if there are any current discoveries about this condition. All I can say is that it is a harrowing condition where you feel completely helpless.

I always wonder why people don't go to the doctor sooner rather than later. I already knew Elizabeth had an allergic reaction though I wasn't sure if it was the flies or the medication. BTW, you can develop allergies to things you have used for years or just a year. I have done just that with medications. Also, the first 3 times I was stung by bees I had a normal needle prick reaction that went away within hours. The 4th time I was stung, I had an allergic reaction which made the bee sting feel like someone hammered a nail into my arm. I already knew something was wrong. And later when my arm swelled, we went to the doctor to find out I had an allergic reaction to the bee sting. The next 3 times I was stung, same allergic reaction. Yes - you guessed it - i attract bees for some reason.
