The missing lighthouse keepers is indeed mysterious. Don't see how we can ever know what actually happened. The only thing that occurs to me is that they ate something that caused hallucinations. Sea Bream is apparently a fish that causes reactions of this kind. I suppose they ate a lot of fish - but maybe not. If not it might be a food of some other kind. Occam's Razor says that when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains must be the answer. But then in a universe of which 95% is unknowable, any flipping thing is possible!

I’ve been intrigued by the lighthouse story for many years after first hearing about it on coast to coast a.m. radio station. what really got me was that this Elean more Isles was so remote from Scotland that the next landmass and would be the eastern seaboard of United States. And there was no beach to land on, only a series of many steps carved into the cliff that you would have to climb in order to access the island
@Algimantaz Жыл бұрын

While I just adore watching and listening to you tell your stories on KZbin I have over the last two years realized that there are others out there that do the same thing that you have decided to do, However there is no one out there as delightful as you or has the voice that is easy to listen to. My name is Denise and I am from salt lake City everyone that I know and that I have just met I ask them if they've ever heard of you mr. Ballen. Recently last week I sent out a request that you search out one of our most horrific in salt lake City/Washington State stories.That would be the Susan and Josh Powell story it is probably one of the worst stories stories that we have all heard here in the state and maybe across the country. It is worth researching. approximately happened about five years ago or less. There are quite a few stories that you tell that just stick with me and I can watch them over and over again as I've heard some of your viewers say before this is one of those stories. I'm sure you won't have a hard time finding this story as it did happened here in salt lake City and Washington area. Please keep up with the originality as you have a massive amount of viewers around the world. Thank you Denise Shubert

Maybe, these guys just wanted to go off grid? It was obvious that the main guy preferred to be away from his family. Strange one! I'm Scottish and the lighthouse story is disturbing. It crops up in some novels. If you're interested in reading novels, set in the Scottish Islands, like Lewis, read Peter May. I think this lighthouse story is referenced in one of them, just can't remember which. Thanks for your stories, John. I've followed you on KZbin for ages but only just found this one! Could I just, respectfully, point out one thing? In the story about the WWII ship, where all the crew died, you called the British ships, English. It may not mean much to Americans, but it's kind of offensive to Scottish, Welsh and Irish people, because we, also, fought in that war. Together, with England, we are British, not English. I see a lot of Americans getting this wrong.

Ok first: “close enough for government work” is a real expression. They overlook indigenous relics all the time. B’cause it would halt progress. I didn’t hear WHY they surveyed it again, except the supposition that they were considering a refuge. I know the men or women doing the survey would not necessarily have had all the info or reasons. Second: As I mentioned military/government contractors and workers overlook indigenous relics all the time. Unless someone on the survey found it who would have recognized the registry, recognized the grave, or recognized that it was not a grave from some episode in the last 200 years, it would have been overlooked and forgotten. Third: surveys are often conducted with unskilled workers and only a few real surveyors. The unskilled labor walks out the lines, cuts brush, scales terrain and does really hard physical labor. They don’t care about anything but the next point of measurement. (My husband has worked his way up doing this) Fourth: when dealing with ancient civilizations, “recent burial” often means within the last few decades. But is usually unique to the examiner. A military examiner would be cursory, unlike a criminal examiner. “No this is not a relic, no special care need be taken.” Or otherwise abbreviated observation. I didn’t hear that actual DNA was conducted. Perhaps it was. But simply recognizing the evidence of the boat, the evidence of a plainly Caucasian skeleton, of a certain developmental age, buried in the last several decades, would have been enough to extrapolate the identity. The question remains, but I suspect the men drifted, some died. A foreign agency picked them up- perhaps pirates who very definitely still operate. Perhaps the survivor/s were forced labor?? Perhaps Moorman passed, but had a friend, who took his remains back to the island he was picked up from. Perhaps he had written on the pages, heat makes ink disappear. Maybe he tried protect it with the aluminum. My observation.
