We have worked hard on our succession planting this year, and will attempt to get better at it in the future, so there aren’t any spots in the gardens that are ever left bare. Food security is the end goal for us. Thank you so much for watching, and take care!

@@GutenGardening purple fingerling potatoes are far and away my favorite. They are extremely pretty - have this glowing skin, and when you cut into them they have this spiral kind of design that is simply amazing. And they are super healthy!

Same here! We love growing both of those crops, but you are right, just when you think you grew enough of something, you start to see where you probably could have/should have grown more. We are for sure going to continue to increase our planting of potatoes next season! Do you have a favorite potato variety to grow?

@@GutenGardening I've been doing research to make sure I have varieties that store better like kennebecs and Yukon gold ,and then ones I can eat fresh or cook partially to freeze! Like the variety of fingerlings as well as red and blue potatoes! I think this is probably what I do most during winter... plan for next year's garden 😂 I've got a plan to have 4 - 4x8 beds for potatoes and 4- 4x8 beds for sweet potatoes!

The "Bargain Hunter", thanks for sharing. I also have issue with only seeing seed potatoes in spring. Seems that most store bought potatoes will not produce well, even if those end up sprouting. I will have to look for organic potatoes to do some testing myself. For gardeners who grow indoors, this will be helpful for growing potatoes in fall.

Yes, we still have some of our fingerlings left over from this harvest that we plan to chit and plant again. If they did so well the first time, we figure we should be able to get even more. The organic varieties are definitely the way to go to see good growth from store bought varieties.

Congratulations on the harvest! I love growing sprouted potatoes from the store, especially when they are discounted. My local farmers market sells their potatoes in brown paper bags. I never get to use all of them before they sprout, but those ones get planted. I only buy seed potatoes if I want a certain variety. Thanks for the video!

@@GutenGardening I've never grown potatoes before and so really I have no experience st all. The potatoes I am growing are basically ones bought at our local Aldi and that have sprouted. I'm growing three large pots of them,in shop bought compost. They are doing really really well and the flowers are now out on the largest plant.. I'm in England by the way. I have learned a lot from watching the clips and so Ill know better next time.,but as for favourite I'll just be happy to see how many I've managed to grow, I love watching the weigh ins.thanks for replying.

@@GutenGardening i don't know variety, bag label says petite fingerling, and only had red and yellow, no purple. i put one in water but it got a furry spot so took it out. the rest of the bag are in an egg carton in the window. one is getting a little soft, no sign of sprouts yet. window may be too cold.

@@GutenGardening watched it. i've been sowing lots of veg and flower seeds in jugs and covered trays outside, using winter sowing method. last year only 2 pepper seeds grew, no peppers, so i am staring them earlier this year. they were $tree seeds, but i think the problem was starting them too late.
