The Times Square hotel where I keep my group just recently closed a whole entrance that faces the square due to crime, so you gotta go thru the parking garage. ...My safety isn't some politician's responsibility, and it never was. They're utterly inept at it in the bargain, anyway. It's my responsibility, and the better I am at it, the wider the sphere of responsibility can become. If we all did that for ourselves, we wouldn't have as many problems as we do. But no, we insist on outsourcing that responsibility to others, and look where it's gotten us. Now, if the politicians focused on the cities, counties, and states as a whole in a more general fashion, I'd probably have less to complain about, but they don't. They insist on making laws that poke and pry into our personal affairs and somehow manage to find judges that'll let them get away with it.
