What I love about Guthrie is how he employs a higher order of technique to enhance the musicality. So many bozos who arrive at a similar level of technical acumen have no sense of musicality whatsoever, their playing is simply a demonstration of how fast they can fly through tonally irrelevant arpeggios. GG is quite different. He uses speed as a legit compositional tool to make great, creative, expressive music.

@shredd5705 2 ай бұрын
@@AlexiOpethKakko Yes THIS one is a 12 bar blues. But some of the other tracks, he must have had some tries, to get the chord structure down. You can't improvise anything meaningful without knowing the chords, unless you get lucky. It becomes literally lottery. Yes you can wing it sometimes, but sometimes you just hit a sour note when the chord changes to something you didn't expect, and it can be unsaveable. Ability to improvise doesn't mean you should be able to do it without knowing the track at all

Guthrie knows all the scales and he knows what actual notes are in those scales so hes not limiting himself to one position. He also knows what notes are contained within chords so he can target those tones in a progression. The more astonishing thing is the speed and style which he can do this. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the most complete and best improviser in the world. I'm proud to be british.

Those guys are playing, and played for hours each day, and the difference of level is logical with someone who only plays like 2 hours per day, a bit more in week end. Keep working, don't give up ! Some of the baddest blues shred I've seen is what he does at 1:57 then answers octave higher. It really is a simple lick.. but it's the fact he even thought of the question answer as it phrased. It reminds me that the greatest musicians are always having a conversation with themselves far before, or just before the audience realizes it.

Cannot. Erase. His solos on these records are memorable! I have then got to know the Aristocrats, where he plays with Marco Minnemann, who, together with Gavin Harrison and John Bonham, is my all-time favourite drummer (not to forget bassist Brian Beller!). Anyway, it has been quite a journey so far, totally enjoyable and well worth it. If anyone sees Guthrie, tell him he owes me $1,800!! I just snapped the neck off my guitar after watching this. *NO,* I don't want another stinking guitar! I''m gonna try a Kazoo next.

If somewhere either on Earth or somewhere else in the universe an android was being built that could shred on electric guitar and knew all there was to know about music theory, fretboard dynamics and had ascertained total mastery, that android would still be lacking in what Guthrie has. Truly amazing talent on display in this video.

But Buckethead has sweet nunchaku skills. Never seen Guthrie use those, but I have seen him play a solo on a rubber chicken. I'd say they're tied.

buckethead seldom using slide, slide-bend, fast hybrid-legato .. Guthrie win at everything in all that above technic and genre (jazz, country, blues, neoclassic, fusion..etc(
