What I love about Guthrie is how he employs a higher order of technique to enhance the musicality. So many bozos who arrive at a similar level of technical acumen have no sense of musicality whatsoever, their playing is simply a demonstration of how fast they can fly through tonally irrelevant arpeggios. GG is quite different. He uses speed as a legit compositional tool to make great, creative, expressive music.

@@kerimcabbar7159 Man it's a 12 bar blues, anyone who studied a little bit of music could improvise without hearing the backing track first. And if you dig into some videos about Guthrie, you'll see he always improvises, always with this astonishing quality.

@@AlexiOpethKakko yeah ofc backing track is straightforward 12 bar but what he plays cannot be recorded just at the first hearing and first take. I have heard zillions improvisations on 12 bar blues. None of them had this ideas , virtuosity etc. combined.

@@kerimcabbar7159 That's why Guthrie Govan is the best guitarist in the world. Maybe the best who has ever lived. I don't think there's a style or technique he hasn't mastered and even the greatest cannot improvise like GG.
@shredd57052 ай бұрын
@@AlexiOpethKakko Yes THIS one is a 12 bar blues. But some of the other tracks, he must have had some tries, to get the chord structure down. You can't improvise anything meaningful without knowing the chords, unless you get lucky. It becomes literally lottery. Yes you can wing it sometimes, but sometimes you just hit a sour note when the chord changes to something you didn't expect, and it can be unsaveable. Ability to improvise doesn't mean you should be able to do it without knowing the track at all
@jakewhitehousemusic15 жыл бұрын
Guthrie knows all the scales and he knows what actual notes are in those scales so hes not limiting himself to one position. He also knows what notes are contained within chords so he can target those tones in a progression. The more astonishing thing is the speed and style which he can do this. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the most complete and best improviser in the world. I'm proud to be british.
