It's hard to believe after all the Guthrie clips I've seen (I've also seen him live) that he is as fresh as that first encounter and ceases to amaze me. There are many but he is thee ONE. No need to impress just does his thing and enjoys every second of it. Guthrie and the guitar as ONE. Fantastic quality clip, feels like I'm there, thanks.

I've had the pleasure of listening to Guthrie lots of times , and he is a charming bloke, and a rapid little player, with that layed back feel, easy in the ears, minus the crunch.

Love this guy but a perfect example of scales vs. feel. Listen to Robin Trower. I know it's a different genre but it's the emotion you pull from the guitar. Scale & feel see: Paul Gilbert. Guthrie is a master no doubt. Just an opinion. In his defense, I've seen him better.

If Guthrie is the best player ever? Where are all his massive hits, where is his packing out stadiums ? Jack of all trades master of none . Yngwie is master of neo classical , Guthrie learnt it from the master , psychedelic dirty blues Hendrix was master . Goes the same for any style , how is it possible for him to be the best at guitar encompassing all styles? He has a huge talent but he is not the be all and end all off guitar , each player has his own nuances it should be this that makes you individual not copying everyone elses nuances .too sown up in showing off to write a nice slow melody that has emotion and substance rather than technical drivel .
@codymarkley83727 жыл бұрын
mick m I think the point you are missing is that he seamlessly blends the aforementioned styles meanwhile injecting his own personality into them, and vice versa. I don't think it's an innapropriate estimation to say that he is by far the most complete Guitarist to ever have any sort of decent exposure. is he a master yes, is he perfect no. As I mentioned before his "seamless," integration of most major musical genres would place him above any living guitar player in the know, as of now. I think the next "Govan," won't be better, they will just expand what he does with none of the background.
@robertbrown17787 жыл бұрын
You are forgetting what he has over most other 'rock guitar gods' - his ear. Malmsteen, Hendrix, Vai, Eric johnson etc. have/had their own shtick, but would all drown in a real jazz fusion improvisational environment for example, and in fact, any real improvisational environment. That's Govan's most comfortable area - interacting, flying by the seat of his pants in any genre.
@krlosvitev7 жыл бұрын
El problema es que pensamos que todo es una copia de todo y lo mejor ya pasó, si valoramos a cada individuo tendremos una perspectiva diferente y podríamos apreciar lo que cada músico hace.

Yawn! Of course he would, and does. Otherwise people would treat him like they do Yngwie. He'd be considered an egotistical jerk. I'm not Greg and I can see Govan is just an imitator. I mean Tosin Abasi, yeah that dude is original. Govan is just attempting to do what has been done before.
