Matt Seriously, the most talented player around. He has been a hired gun, sideman and teacher for many years. Has a solo career and is now part of the Aristocrats - a band with so much individual talent, your mind is quite literally on the edge of exploding when listening.

Guthrie Govan is from Chelmsford, Essex, England. He's an unbelievable player. Listen to 'Ner Ner' from this same performance, there's some incredible slide guitar. Also, the jam track central ones are amazing, I highly recommend the Larry Carlton one - it's all entirely improvised. But all of them kick ass. I also think the performance of Thelma and Louise with Hans Zimmer in 2016 where his string breaks mid performance is noteworthy. No more spoils for that one though :). Whatever though, this man truly defines greatness. I learned from watching him that it's possible to be so good at something that a) you can make even pro's look bad and b) you can make everyone else laugh in disbelief at how good you are.

Guthrie is that rarest of rock musicians - he is Oxford-educated. His discourse in coaching and teaching is almost as melodious as his music.
@watchinit60632 жыл бұрын
JAD , Guthrie is so much more than a rock musician. He covers any type of music that strikes his fancy. What he played here is more akin to fusion jazz than rock.

@@neilcreamer8207 when you listen to absolutely everything he's played, IMO also he is without a doubt the greatest ever to touch the guitar. I also believe he is incredibly far ahead of any #2 player, including Shawn Lane, Allan Holdsworth and Danny Gatton.

The Einstein of the guitar. Like his counterpart in physics, Guthrie Govan is light years ahead of his time.

Bit late to the party, but that part (5:55) where you ‘woo’ from a G almost to an E really suited the vibe. Stellar reaction.

Guthrie Govan is what Virgil Donati is to drums.

When you have to take a second to fully (not) understand what has happened in the run up using tapping... yup, that's the sensation. Guthrie Govan is a freaking monster.

Matt... seriously check out Guthie Govan's one-take outro solo on "Drive Home" by Steven Wilson. It's an epic rock guitar solo that ranks up with the greatest legendary rock solos of all time. If you haven't reacted to "Drive Home" then you should. It's a phenomenal song. And I doubt you have because you'd have already learned that GG played on that track. "Drive Home" -- Steven Wilson kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5S8lqqensaJeM0 And if you're into crazy funk fusion played at virtuoso level check out: "The Chicken" -- Matteo Mancuso - Riccardo Oliva - Salvatore Lima kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYWcXmB-jLSHd5o Two solid recommendations for your channel. Don't miss 'em.

As a sax player, you will probably appreciate the 'trade off' solos between Guthrie and his original 'Fellowship' band member, my friend Zak Barratt. I was born and grew up in the same town and got to see him play, as he still occasionally does, at a dingy cellar called 'The Bassment' in Chelmsford, which, IMHO is the best place to see him, and you get the chance to buy him beer, which he always appreciates. A really decent man, with no hint of ego. Here's the Fellowship link. It also features Guthrie's brother Seth on bass, and the deeply impressive Pete Riley on drums: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2eZfoCHbq-mjbM

Awesome reaction. Considering you play sax, I highly recommend you check out guitarist Allan Holdsworth. His playing was very much influenced by sax players. He's arguably one of the best to ever pick up a guitar
