I started learning harp at the age of 8 but stopped at 15, because at that time, the closest person to me, my harp teacher, had to quit teaching, due to domestic violence and alcoholism…This song made me regain my courage for the harp, so i grabbed my harp, replaced all the torn strings, tuned it and start playing again. I started with this very song! Playing this almost puts me in tears every time. This is to me one of the greatest peace of art ever to be performed on Harp. Very Emotional. Thank you

Sounds like you played pedal harp. Had I known they had those classes in the college I went to in New York for my freshman year, I would have learned to play pedal harp. Still kick myself for that!😖 Pedal harp seems like the musical equivalent of learning to drive a stick-shift, IMO. Lever or folk harp is easier, and brings out your inner muse! I haven't been able to play it for a while due to extenuating circumstances, but it's safely in storage. I miss it!😭 But if you can get a small lever harp, you can still have a lot of fun with it!

In the Indian classical tradition, I just learned that there are two concepts of musical sound. One pertains to "struck" sound which is audible and the studied sound we all understand in the West to be "music." The other pertains to "unstruck" sound, which is sensed through our hearts/spirits rather than through any physical faculty. Music is, by this tradition, a vehicle or medium, through which, with practice in playing or in listening, one may sense and connect with this mystical unheard sound. I believe it must be the "sound" or vibration of the eternal side of our own beings which is within us and around us at all times. All that to say that the meditation your beautiful playing invokes, must surely be a vehicle honored by this unusual theory of unstruck sound, holding within it the subtle power to amplify this elusive and sacred sound, the sound of one's own spirit. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. I think the Celtic element here must deepen that connection to the "unstruck." It has always stirred something in me.
@hoppy1970
@hoppy1970 4 жыл бұрын
I only realised this myself within this last year and it has changed the way I listen to music; also the human voice. It felt like a "new beginning". Perhaps the connection is stronger in celtic music due to it's ancient origins.

If you understand what you wrote, I propose you investigate 432Hz tuning frequency, as well as others that are not conventional in today's musical practice. This opens new levels of understanding the vibration called "sound".

This a very beautiful piece of poetry. I say 'piece' because I gather that to express the vastness of things may take a long time, and the role of poetry (I guess) is to capture fragments of that vastness, giving back the 'glittering sparkles' of meaningful moments. You did it beautifully, indeed.

When I was 8 years old, everyone thought I was going to play the flute like my sister (I thought so too), but when the moment came to decide what instrument I want to play, I said I want to play the harp, and everyone was surprised because they didn't expect it. But since they didn't have it in my music school, I decided to go for a piano. But to this day, I still want to play the harp. I know that moment will come, it's just a matter of time. You're an inspiration, you play so beautifully! ✨

How these tunes match to that running water! As if they were twins, harp and water. This composition is so very full of passion - I bet if there were any mermaids sleeping in the bottom of that river (or lake...), they were awakened by those sounds. Kindred spirits rejoice in the company of each other...

Interesting thought! Thank you for reflecting and commenting. 🌸🌺🌿 It could also be because this piece is now integrated into a lot of algorithmic playlists where listeners don't necessarily comment on or like each song that is played at the moment.

Never had an interest in listening to harp music. I always thought it is a weird instrument that no one likes. Today, out of nowhere, I decided to look it up and I found this video.
