Development in Guwahati is a two way sword. If you want to reduce traffic jams you need more flyovers, because the number of people are increasing day by day. On the other hand by cutting the mature trees will hinder the balance of the ecosystem of Digholi pukhuri. Government needs to find out a solution to cater both.
Good steps taken by the people.... Great 👍. I truly agree with them.

Taking a stand matters. These flyover projects have already cut trees relentlessly but no one did much so the authorities had the audacity to cut them down at night and remove any evidence of it by the morning. The lack of protest gave them this much power. Now, atleast they will think twice. A society must be alert. Always. That is the only way to remain a citizen ruled nation.

Those trees stand tall . They witnessed trials and tribulations of our ancient city Guwahati since ages . Colonies of Bats thrive in those trees . Bats are essential for our ecosystem. Bats are required for pollination, pest control, seed dispersal, nutrient cycling . Also , bats are an indicator for ecosystem health. Apart from the same , the trees provide both spiritual relief and aesthetic appeal to the beholder . They cultivate a sense of motivation in the mind of young and old , the successful and the one facing challenges of life . Our ancient city of Guwahati must not be re branded a smart city . Let it remain pure as an ancient city. Better cut of liquor shops , night clubs and massage parlours where anti social elements thrive . The high court , those colleges , government offices , museum , art gallery and cultural center near Dighalipukhuri has sung lullabies of conservation and restoration since ages . How can one suddenly defy the sentiment of the same ? Such proposal of felling trees signify imbalance of pragmatism and idealism . Better control rampant liquor consumption, outburst of drug abuse in the city . Smartness will not be defined by aspects of Globalisation but by fulfilling the positive aspects of one’s local values and traditional knowledge.

Have you ever travelled outside Assam in any cities of India? What do you see there? Full of old big trees all around not only beautifying these cities but also protecting people from intense heat and solace in mind and pleasure. But in Guwahati city only a very countable trees are seen only in some pockets. Now Guwahati is like a desert city in India. It's a great tragedy as day by day Guwahati is being plagued by extreme unbearable heat unlike other cities of India. But Govt. Of Assam inthe name of unsuitable flyovers has made Guwahati a barren dull city without peace of mind from a child to an old person. happenings for greed of money of vested interest.

Let the botanical experts study those very old trees as to their life span and submit reports to the Govt.Very very old trees are indeed prone to uprooting in the event of storm or other natural mishaps..Moreover it is desirable to have more and more new plantation in a systematic and scientific manner. Agitation does not bring any good results.
