One of the best Townes covers, by his dear friend Guy Clark, love Guy & Townes, Suzanna & Rodney Crowell. Rodney’s song “It Ain’t Over Yet” is about his dear friends Guy and Suzanna Clark, both songwriting heroes, Suzanna passed away in 2012, she is the beautiful young woman with long brown hair washing dishes in Heartworn Highways, Guy passed in 2016.
@iqbalsiddiqui6404Ай бұрын
the young woman washing dishes in Heartworn Highways wasn't Susanna Clark. In HH, Susanna is seen in some of the jam sessions at Guy's house, eg when Steve Earle and Rodney Crowell are playing. She is also the woman lighting Richard Dobson's cigarette before he sings Forever, For Always, For Certain. The dish washing was at Townes van Zandt's house, but the identity of the girl is not known precisely, a couple of names have been suggested.

A great cover. But why did he skip the first verse?
@coldwarmike6 жыл бұрын
The story is told that apparently guy thought the song was perfect but that the opening took away from it. I do however believe there is a recorded version where he simply moves the Intro later in the song

I wonder why Guy Clark, or his handlers, felt the need to scrub some of the original lyrics to Townes Van Zandt's song. Until now, I thought Van Zandt and Clark were good friends.
@knopflerfan90692 ай бұрын
They were very good friends, it's just part of being in the songwriting game. Guy was known to consider songs as constant works in progress - he'd change lines of his own for years after releasing official recordings. He thought the first verse of this song of Townes detracted from perfection - subjective, but I honestly agree. So he would sing what he considered the 'fixed' version, either without the first verse or with it at the end instead. It's not meant as an act of disrespect in any way.
@maryhardy29182 ай бұрын
@@knopflerfan9069 Thanks. I didn't find Clark's version disrespectful, but more commercial.
