Mine happened on a midnight flight from Chicago to Charleston and I have the selfie to prove it. He was absolutely hammered and couldn't have been nicer. When we boarded the plane in Chicago he was the only one on the plane and sitting in what is now known as "The Bill Murray Seat." 1,000%. Dave was like..."It's your time, dude. Up the tempo if you want to." And Richard, as an apparently VERY knowledgeable drummer, politely said through his drumming "Thanks mate, but no. I'm going to bring it down first." Dave's reaction, as you said, was genuine 🙂

Dave always tells the story of how when he was a teenager, he always dreamed of the moment he would be in a concert and someone would come at the stage and say "Our drummer cannot play tonight, the show is canceled. Unless we have someone who knows all the songs" and then he would show up and save the day. The fact that after all these years, he creates this magical moment for his fans over and over just shows the amazing down to earth man he is. This video made my day! Already my favorite, along with Kiss Guy. The funny thing is that Dave’s dream did come true. He was the unknown drummer of Scream with a scheduled concert in Toronto. When they were setting up the equipment, they found out that Iggy Pop would play there in a private event before their gig. But the production didn’t let them participate, so they went back to their Van to wait until the hour of their concert, really sad that they couldn’t see Iggy. After a while, someone knocked in the window and asked if the drummer was interested to play with Iggy Pop! And the rest is history. Dave tells these stories in his book, the Storyteller.

So they essentially trade away everything they love, just to give people a great time. It's not uncommon for musicians to spend 60-80 hours a week on their music, whether it being producing a new song or album, preparing for touring or getting ready for a play somewhere. This is why Taylor was one of the most awesome drummers in all of history. He has done this a few times. As a mediocre drummer since I was ten, do you know how many drummers out there have literally DREAMED of this happening. And Taylor Hawkins made that dream a reality for many drummers. Thank you 🙏

this is so fucking cool to see. He is just himself in that moment. Music is a million different languages and everyone on the stage is fluent in rock. The way the bring it down and crank it up, the audience taking over the chorus, what an experience. Richard put on a masterclass here. It is one thing to have the technique to play this and confidence to sit down behind that kit, but also having the right nature to express himself, go with the flow and play around with the other musicians is absolutely legendary. I come back to this video so often, because it makes me feel like we are all going to be ok. Despite all the shit that is going on.

Well said! Did you ever see the college kid who had the balls to play piano with Billy Joel? Billy was at Vanderbilt University in the US, performing a little and was in a Question and Answer phase of the night. People in the audience asked him questions. Well, this one dude stands up, gets handed the mic in the audience for questions, and he goes "Umm, my favorite song of yours is New York State of Mind, umm..I've been very fortunate to play in New York city, and I was wondering if I can play it with you?" Audience gasps a little bit. On stage, Billy fiddles with something in his hand, not answering, and he looks at the kid. The kid says "I would accompany you, that is". Billy goes ".....ok", and accepts. The kid walks up, crowd is lit-up! As he gets on stage Billy is asking him what key he plays it in, kid goes "any key you want it in" :) It's pretty magical. On youtube search for "Billy Joel - Q&A Can I play on New York State of Mind" Enjoy :) (not providing link as some video delete comments with links)
