He was forced by the organization to leave the ice!! He would show them when he came out of "retirement" that he had something left in the tank.

Guy Lafleur would smoke every chance he got-including in the dressing room in between periods during his career--unfortunately it ultimately caught up to him--he needed bypass surgery and during that it was discovered he had lung cancer--I understand he is now receiving chemotherapy for a recurrence
