It costs like 40k/year of tax dollars to keep someone in prison and the US has the largest percentage of its citizens incarcerated vs any other country in the world, and it's not close. I think at some point you have to invest more in your citizens, schools, mental health and such. The current way of doing things is just a bandaid fix on complex issues.
