I live in south Louisiana, and the people here still try to have Jim Crow as much possible. For example, the public schools are 95% black, and the expensive private religious schools are 95% white.

Enrollment numbers in the Catholic school system in new Orleans baton rouge and Lafayette has all gone down for 3 straight decades. I don't think they're moving to the Episcopal or other non Catholic school systems because those dont appear to have gotten any bigger. My suspicion is that wealthy white people have figured out how to rig the public system to their liking. Things like lab or magnet schools, and especially the french immersion thing. If you get invited to the correct party you can sign your kids name down on whatever it is the 30? Students that are required to get their own special french immersion class. Either that or the simple explanation that south Louisianas upper class grows ever smaller to where none of us can even hope to be a part of it

@grimwizzard The public school I went to in South Louisiana was horrible. The average SAT score is 19, which isn't even enough to get the merit based financial aid the state offers. That means if your parents can't afford private tutoring, you won't do well on the SAT and probably won't get accepted by decent college.

In case it's not clear, a government shutdown isn't a super big deal unless it stays that way. The damage compounds over time and could be devastating.
